This This and This

What three major items must the new movie click on, meaning get right, for YOU to consider it a success...We all have different opinions as to what those three things should be, so list them in order...

1. Feeling of epic scale. What I always wanted in trek.
2. Feeling of reality, where the fiction meets concrete believability.
3. A sense of a positive future, which doesn't have to be stated, but demonstrated.

3b. The new actors need to feel appropriate to the old characters.

Dude, gotta give you your props. I was making my list when I saw yours and I totally agree with your list.

1. An appearance by Mirror Uhura in scanty Imperial Uniform.
2. Mugatu. No Mugatu, no Star Trek. No Mugatu, no Peace.
3. Epic Scale, complete boldness, a sundered timeline, and an absolute willingness on the part of JJ, Orci, and Kurtzman to rape several million childhoods and leave them weeping at the curbside.

-------------

That is to say, if JJ surrenders to convention like Lucas did in the prequels, this can be considered a failure of nerve.

I had similar thoughts about a Mirror Uhura (while not necessarily in connection with Star Trek XII), I am open to the Mugatu (although depending on the context of the story) and I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with your last point! :techman::techman::techman:
[Not that I condone rape in any way]

All the prequels had at least grand vistas and a certain oomph. However, Lucas tends to let his creations fizzle out in the most undignified ways... 'The Return of the Jedi' and 'The Ewok Adventure', now 'Revenge of the Sith' and 'The Clone Wars'. If he doesn't come up with something better (the announced TV series perhaps), Star Wars will be finito forever (unless he wants to do a third trilogy, which I doubt) and a successful nuTrek series will catch him with his pants down...

1. Quinto has to be believable as Spock.
2. The chemistry between Kirk, Spock & McCoy has to work.
3. It has to make me feel "at home" and in awe at the same time.

1. A guy in a redshirt has to die

2. Spock must use the Vulcan Neck pinch (this is entirely optional)

3. It has to be a good movie.

Well, according to some on here, this movie must be completely fresh and unique but also be 100% exactly like what came before it.

1) Continuity of characters
2) Focus on drama, not special effects
3) In-jokes for the fans
