Your Last Meal

Anthony Bourdain said chefs play a game called "Last Meal." What always amazes him about the game is that these chefs almost always choose familiar or comfort foods over gourmet fare.

Mine? An Iowa corn-fed ribeye, about 1 1/2 lbs., done medium-rare. Drizzle some olive oil on top and crumble some Maytag blue cheese on it. Accompany it with a baked potato with sour cream, blanched spinach, and a nice red wine.

That's not my comfort food zone (sauerbraten is in there), but it would be my last meal.

Yours?

^Damn, I love Bourdain!

My last meal? Standing rib roast (extra garlic), with Yorkshire pudding, sauteed asparagus--maybe an ice cream sundae for dessert. Ice cold water and some Dr. Pepper, to wash it down.

Probably a big cheese burger with loads of accesories on it, fries, very large Dr Pepper, and fried onion rings with dip as a side to that. Might want to ad some raspberry lemonade to that since I love the stuff.

Imma goin' out anyways so might as well make it good!

The flesh of those who were about to execute me.

Oh, no! Misunderstanding, here. Let's just say you're 95, you're tastebuds still work, and somehow you have it on good knowledge that you get one good last nosh before the big sleep.

Hmm... in that case I'd probably go for 5-6 coney dogs with onion and mustard, seasoned curly fries, a couple of bacon cheeseburgers, a big chocolate milkshake, and a gallon of chocolate ice cream with a pan of warm brownies. Stuff that reminds me of the better days of my youth.

An appetizer order of teriyaki beef from The Big Apple Pub and Bar in Fayetteville, NC. A single bowl of beef, onions, bell peppers, and pineapple pieces cooked on the Mongolian BBQ at Empire Fire in North Myrtle Beach, SC. A small order of Springfield, MO, style cashew chicken, no onions, extra cashews from Twin Dragon in Greenfield, MO. A bowl of baby green lima beans, cooked in the residue of fried country ham - with some little pieces of the ham left in. And for desert, a piece of homemade German chocolate cake. Good cranberry sweet tea to drink throughout.

And the most important part - my wife and kids to eat with me.

^ Yeah...some family and friends to enjoy the last meal with would be nice.

I'd have to say that I'd request nice big fillet of beer battered fish, doesn't matter which kind really-with all the fixin's too ( coleslaw, Mac salad, and potato salad, with a yeasty roll), some baked, creamy mac & cheese, with a thick Malt Ball milkshake, some Loganberry, and a huge helping of my grandmother's chocolate mayonnaise cake with peanut butter-chocolate frosting. I might add some mozzarella sticks as an appetizer.

As for the heart attack that will foll;ow...well, I guess I'm not too concerned with that. :p

Well comfort food is more appealing than expensive super gourmet if it's your last meal. Why order something you may or may not enjoy?

I think I'd have to go with some nice, slow-cooked ribs, slathered in a good BBQ sauce and with a side of sweet potato fries. Hard to beat that. :)

That's true for me too.

Mine would be pan-fried Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and a beer. :)

Spaghetti bolognese and a strawberry milkshake.

I think it's one of those questions where the answer would be different from day to day.

-a home grilled 1/2lb burger topped with cheese(colby jack), lettuce, onions, tomato, and crispy bacon all on a wheat roll
-a Hofmann's coney with mustard
-a Dinosaur BBQ pulled pork sandwich with beans and coleslaw
-anything fried from the New York State Fair, including but not limited to: hot curly fries, bloomin' onion, and a spicy sausage topped with peppers and onions grilled until they're slimey on a sourdough roll

:D

God old fry up for a starter, follow that up with chicken fried rice with some chicken and bacon pizza on the side, and finish it off with something with a lot of calories and chocolate... throw in a few bottles of wine and I'd be happy.

I changed my mind. Today, I would choose an English breakfast. Double eggs - sunny side up, double tomatoes, baked beans, buttered toast on the side, and a latte. Unbeatable. I often have that for brunch, time allowing.
