so, since I don't have a couple grand, I'm stuck with Blender, which is fine I gues, except for the fact I can't find any meshes to play with (adding backgrounds, changing nacel colors, making fleets, anything that will keep me busy and teach me a couple things...) I keep looking for meshes with the .blend extension, but can't seem to find any except for a few should I be looking for a different extension? I'd like to find a very detailed, very smooth looking Sovy, and maybe a star destroyer from star wars for a little project.... I want to play around with the Sovy, maybe give purple nacelles and bussard collectors like in the Post Nemesis Bridge Commander Mod I saw awhile back.... cause that looked cool, and when I get around to making my ship it will have purple nacelles, allthough I doubt it will be starfleet like, as I want mine to be able to go under water/various liquids/fluidic space, and other things that require a little more planning for structural integrity... but Sovies are cool
I'm unfamiliar with Blender, but they have a page of plugins for the import/export of different file types. Can Blender import .obj files? That's a pretty universal format these days.
thanks for the link, it looks like most of those are for exporting, I need to find a way to import them to blender... most of those file types I didn't recognize, which isn't surprising lol... I'm sure Blender can do .obj files, I remember seeing that option, or at least I think I did, but..... I can't find any .obj based meshes...to mess around with...
Sure, blender can import 3d studio max files, OBJ files, and Lightwave models, with no problem. You can go here, to get some for Blender, though. http://stblender.iindigo3d.com/meshes.html
Wow. I forgot about that site. But I bet any content they had can now be found in the Sci-Fi section of BlendSwap.
