Reporters just don't get Shatner. He likes to give absurd answers to their questions just to mess with their heads, and they report the things he says without getting the joke. Asking Shatner if he wanted to be governor general of Canada was a blatantly absurd question, so he one-upped it by asserting an even more absurd ambition in response.
It was a rhetorical question, really, but if you're not listening too carefully, "Red Serge" might easily be mistaken for "redshirt".
I say let's throw him a bone and give him Canada...and hell since it's sitting there lets throw in Mexico too!

), not only is he practically as nutty as his Crane character (not a negative as far as I'm concerned), but he's been her for a total of maybe 6 months in the past 50 years... Not exactly prime Canadian content anymore...
