The sheer emotion of that trailer

why?! what is it about the trailer? the music? the epic-ness? the images?
Yes, it's the music... and the explosions. Try watching it with the volume off.

Personally, I think you should just watch this, it's full of music and explosions.

---------------

the music in both trailers has been seemingly perfect. big thumbs-up to whoever was behind that

The part that rips me up every time is when Greenwood says "Your father was Captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives. Including yours. I dare you to do better!"

God...it chokes me up just to type it out. Strong stuff.

Yep, that was the part that got to me. There is such reverence and awe in the delivery that you can't help but get washed away by the emotion. The rest of the trailer was great, but that scene was the emotional touchstone of the whole trailer. Hell, it might even be the cornerstone of the whole movie. I cannot wait for May!

I get a lump in my throat when I think of this movie doing for the franchise the same as Kirk would; turn death into a fighting chance to live on.

I so long for the day when I can, without hesitation seeded in doubt because of watered down failures, once again proudly proclaim: Star Trek Lives!

I got the same impression when watching the trailer. Down here in Brazil most people dont care about Trek, but after the trailer aired, everyone in the theathre was whispering...I couldnt make out what they were saying saying, but the buzz was much higher than the trailer for Se eu fosse voce, which is currently the biggest box office here.
My God, I cant wait.

BTW, Wathcmen is awesome.

BTW, JJ is so fucking awesome..the franchise is in good hands. look at what he did whit MI, he gave us a decent movie after Woo gave us some shitty excuse for MI

It is one possibly the best trailer for a film i have seen in a LONG time.

The music is perfect, i hope that is part of the score. The cutting and pace of the trailer is brilliant.

I love the but with Nero shouting with absolute passion and emotion 'FIRE EVERYTHING.'

'James T. Kirk was a great man. But that was another life'. Another geart Nero line. And of course, the Pike line at the start:

'Your father was captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives, including yours. I dare you to do better.'

This is shaping up very nicely.

Again, GREAT music, GREAT trailer.

I too hope the music in the trailer is in ''some'' way in the movie itself! It's just that POWERFUL a score.

That trailer is terrific, I agree. The movie can't get here fast enough.

If I hadn't been a Trekkie since the age of four, I'd be one now. :D

I mean I'm still worried..is the tiem travfel aspect going to alienatenew viewers? Is the plot really about destroyying whole planets, and will such detructions be reset (I I always thought Trek worked when the problems were more about decisions than huge catastrophies)

however.. the emotions in the trailer.. and that music, was awesome.
My theory on such things is that the right emotional punch sweeps away all considerations of logic and rationality. If you're swept up in a movie, you don't stop to analyze whether the time travel makes any frakkin' sense. It's only the boring movies where you have time to do that.

It's like becoming a Starship Captain is once again something incredible, something special. I started feeling in ENT that being a Captain just wasn't a big to do. Oh I know they wanted to convey that it was, but the feeling wasn't there.
Archer never convinced me that of all the candidates for that job that should be living on Earth, he was the one and only person who they'd choose. And being the first person in that job, it should have been more special than Kirk, but it wasn't.
Let's be honest with ourselves, no matter ''who'' B&B picked to be ARCHER, nothing would have changed because B&B were doing MOST of the wrighting and telling the other wrighters ''how'' to wright. I don't put the blame on Bakula, he really did try his best!

And when he had GOOD writers giving him material, he shined (shone?) like a true star...the speech at the end of "Terra Prime" is a perfect example.

But after seeing Pine in Bottle Shock, which is about as far from Star Trek as you can get, I think he does have charisma and screen presence that will allow him to capture the feel of Kirk. That's the most important thing of all (only a little bit less important is Quinto as Spock, which I've never had any worries about.)

Archer wasn't very interesting, epic, or much of a hero until season 3 of Enterprise, which came much too late to save it.

But Pike looks epic and his delivery of the line to young kirk challenges him to step up to the plate.

Also, we are seeing Kirk do familiar things, like sitting in the Captain's chair for the first time. We are seeing Spock do unfamiliar things like strangle Kirk (older trailer, I know) and hug Uhura back!

The music is emotionally epic in feel, too.

It would make it perfect to have Nimoy's Spock in there, if only to give us a salute.

Agreed with both of you. I don't know, this just feels, I guess epic is the word of the day. It feels epic. It feels grand, like a grand adventure that we're all about to embark on. I actually feel excited to see this movie. I have fashioned 2009 around this movie, oddly enough, and I can't wait to see it.

I agree with those who loved the trailer. A problem with a lot of sci-fi movie trailers is that they focus on some central mystery and bombard you with a bunch of effects. Although this trailer didn't hold back on the explosions, most of the dialogue focused on the character elements of the story, and I found that very promising. Trek needs some real, vivid characterization, and I get the feeling that's what this movie will deliver.

Each trailer has gotten me more excited than the last--they are getting better. I can't wait for May.

I think the new trailer is superbly edited and the music does give it good emotional effect. My only complaint about the music is that it's too synthesized and I would prefer orchestral score to a synthesized one. I think Star Trek needs to stay with the orchestral quality of the past movies. So, I hope that the trailer score is just that...for the trailer!

Kevin

The trailer music is done by Two Steps From Hell. It's a modified version of the piece "Freedom Fighters" off their album Legend.
