...reveals that there is some sort of cut out section with maybe rear-facing torp launchers. It seems pretty similar in concept to the Gabe'prise.

I did notice a shot of the Enterprise with NCC-1701 painted on the bottom part of the saucer. Didn't I? Did anyone get a screenshot of that?

Actually, that's the Enterprise flying upside down in relation to the camera.

This is a pretty clear shot of the Kelvin bridge and uniform.

Based on that single frame I think I prefer the Kelvin's bridge to that of the Enterprise. Then again, the Enterprise bridge would probably look better if it were on fire with most of its lights out too.

It worked. That whole sequence reminds me of Cloud City in ESB. Here we discover that Sulu is actually Kirk's father.

At least there is no up and down in space in this movie, for the most part anyway, as we see the Enterprise enter frame in one shot upside down.

Interesting that Kirk has huge moon boots in that shot. The all-black uniform must be the bottom layer of some sort of special survival gear or whatnot.

I may be wrong, but wasn't Spock Pike's first officer?

In the original timeline - I don't believe so. In "The Cage," there was a female character, simply named, "Number One," who was Captain Pike's first officer.

Whether the crew structure changed in the years between "The Cage" and Captain Pike's eventual departure from the Enterprise is unknown.

I noticed that too. Perhaps it has something to do with the cold weather gear from the ice planet (Hoth?). It would follow then that the black outfit is not a cadet uniform, and that Kirk could be an officer at this point.

That was my first thought, too!

Enhancing the image, it looks like there might be an "F" in front: "FLOWE". No idea what that might be a part of, though.
