I just saw the trailer...Magnificent. I was left quite speechless actually.

I thought i read somewhere that the new trailer was going to be in front of Watchmen... no such trailer.... so guess what i just got back from watching at 3 in the morning....

I really loved the trailer, especially the final shot of all those drones ripping the Enterprise apart. Great visuals. Nero looks to be an intense villain. Loved Eric Bana in that trailer.
I´m hoping this will be good. I have every faith in JJ Abrams, but not so much in Kurtzman and Orci. I´ll be there on opening day. Let´s hope I´m not the only one in the theater (as was the case with Nemesis).

That's not the Enterprise, it's the USS Kelvin.
I'm stunned after seeing that trailer, I've been looking forward for this movie, and well can't May come now

I think part of my prob with the trailer is the intercutting of Ent battle stuff Kelvin battle stuff ... mainly cuz the Kelvin stuff looks very solid in a GQ+ way, whereas the ENT stuff looks CG (that shot under E as it approaches the rom organiship looks like a SoSF calendar image.)
Wonder if this is one of those things like TPM, where they started with a miniature shot to reacquaint the audience, then depart drastically (like the past [KELVIN] is good miniature work, the future is CG?)
That might explain why there has been evasiveness of the issue of miniature work in the show too. I contacted Kerner (the old ILM modelshop) about their part in things in January, but had my query answered by ILM's PR (even though they are totally separate entities now.) Weeks later, the same ILM PR told me they were unaware of Kerner's involvement in TREK, saying 'you can't believe what you read on IMDB' (even though that hadn't been my source.) Of course, Kerner's involvement has been mentioned at more reliable places, but my only real 'proof' of them is that the KELVIN stuff really looks the way I would figure another GQ flick to look, whereas the Ent stuff looks like a busier and gauzier version of business-as-usual.

I think it's more of a design aspect and how they wanted the ships to look.
I think they cut the Kelvin stuff in with the Enterprise stuff because regular audience members who don't know anything about the film's story might think both ships are one in the same. The Enterprise. I think the trailer was specifically editied in this way to add dramatic effect and make people think it was the Enterprise getting the crap beat out of her and not the Kelvin.
I like the Kelvin more too. She's a lot grittier and has more character.
The thing I liked the most was that, for once, Earth is not the planet in peril! That was one ancient cliché that was in dire need of braking! However, I still don't see the logic behind Kirk assuming command as it seems to come across in the trailer. From what I have read he is not a proper member of the crew and a fairly low ranking officer at that. Surely, there must be a score of officers who would be more eligible to taking command before him? Does any one have a plausible answer for this that would also make sense from a military hierarchy perspective ?

This trailer has made me interested in the movie for the first time.

One CG-model represents an old, used ship - the Kelvin.
The other CG-model represents the sparkling new pride of the fleet - the Enterprise.
Neither one looks more or less CG than the other.
TPM used miniatures throughout the film: the Radiant, the the Trade Federation's ships, the Naboo space-crafts (royal ship and fighters), the pod-race-arena...
Yeah, but perhaps you and/or your sources are wrong. I mean, why would they feel the need to lie about miniature-work in this film?
Exactly so.
It's pretty obvious, really, that the effects work and appearence of reality in this film is heads and shoulders above anything done the "old-fashioned way" in previous Trek movies. Thank god they've abandoned the practical model approach.
