The Difference Between Men and Women

Generalising about a bunch of people who's attitudes you have spent quite a long time observing is not the same as generalising about entire genders.

Not to defend some of the ideas in this thread, but who says they haven't been observing the opposite sex ?

Posting here for entertainment is trolling?

What, am I supposed to be posting here for work?

Your suggestion is that the guys posting in this thread don't know anything about women because they don't have girlfriends and don't get to meet a lot of women ? Correct ?

My suggestion is that the only way people would actually believe the shit that has been posted in this thread is if they get 99% of their exposure to women from sitcoms, stand-up comics and porn.

You and JW might find it very easy to just walk up to anyone you find attractive and have their phone number three seconds later. I don't know.
If you think that's how the world actually works, then no, you don't know.

If you think that is normal for people who post on a Star Trek message board then I do not think you know your audience very well.
I'm not a TV show. I don't actually care about my ratings.

What do you think your generalisations about people here were going to get you ?
I had no particular expectations. However, as it turned out, what it got me is that you just TOTALLY validated those generalizations in the quotes above. :bolian:

Hugs and puppies ?
I'm more of a cat person.

Sure, but knowing a few women doesn't make you an expert either.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, i'm saying that the people I know demonstrate to me that you cannot stereotype entire genders, i'm not attributing any common behaviour to them or anyone else. Not really a complicated statement. :vulcan:

Well of course I did. Why don't you go post on "PerfectLivesBBS" and leave us dateless, friendless losers who don't know how to talk to women and thus couldn't possibly know a thing about them alone ? Surely you'd be happier ?

And to think, I actually argued against the stereotyping. Looks like I was wrong to do that when it's okay for the almighty flamingliberal to do it.

Neither was mine. I didn't suggest the stereotypes were accurate, now did I ?

So, what, you're calling everyone who posts here dateless losers? There's a word for that. Starts with an "f", ends in "lame".

I am portraying the attitude that people like you and JonathanWally seem to have towards other posters on here. Am I wrong ?

The question stands, wouldn't you be happier posting somewhere else with people more like you ?

What attitude do I have towards other posters on here?

That's not attitude, that's me pointing out exactly what half this thread looks like.

By doing so you make a generalisation in an attempt to criticise people who make generalisations about others.

When this comes from someone who makes a point of reminding everyone how "awesome" he is, it does not read very well.

"Like me"? Why don't you describe what you think I'm "like"?

Don't hate me because I'm awesome.

Contrary to popular opinion, I don't hate anyone on this board. Unfortunately, whether you mean to do it or not, you and a certain group of others come across as more than a little condescending when speaking about the trouble other people on this board have with dealing with others, especially women.

"Like me"? Why don't you describe what you think I'm "like"?

People who will put up with your somewhat limited view of what people should be like and how they should behave. Basically, people who aren't geeks like most of us here. You clearly have a low opinion of the majority of TrekBBS' posters. I do not see what continues to draw you here.

As to your other points, I'm never condescending. How dare you imply that.

Arrogant, egotistical, self-righteous, but I'm never condescending (that means talking down to people for those of you who didn't go to dictionary.com)

Hey, out of curiosity, can you define the words "context" and "perspective" for me?

The squealing thing, I've noticed that. It's a form of data-handshake like fax-machines and old dial-up modems use. Notice how women once they get past the squeal and compressed greeting can exchange volumes of data with a couple of phrases and body language? It's amazing how they do that.

'course us dudes do that too, but it only works with sports.

DUDE1: So how 'bout them Bills?
DUDE2: *grunt*
DUDE1: *grunt*
DUDE2: Exactly why they need another quarterback.
DUDE1: Enough chitchat, pass me another beer.

:D

Having met both flamingliberal and JonathonWally I can confirm that they are both awesome.

Gee, I wander away from a nice light-hearted thread for like a day and look what's happened!

I have recently discovered what I think is an honest-to-God difference between the sexes. Seriously. A lot of guys (in the U.S. - don't know about anywhere else) who come of age in a time of war secretly feel a little bad that they either didn't go in the military, or if they did but never went into combat, they feel a little bad about that, instead. I've observed it in what I considered some pretty unlikely people recently, and it involved three different wars (WWII, Vietnam - and now). I found that interesting and revealing. And a little bit noble, actually.
