Florida woman calls 911 three times over... McNuggets.

Slightly OT, but this story reminds me of an article I read once about 911 abuse.

The article cited a woman who called 911 because her cable was out. The operator told her 911 was for emergencies. The woman yelled "It is an emergency! I don't have cable!" at the 911 operator.

Also, apparently every year, 911 gets calls from people asking how to cook Turkeys... usually at.... xmas or maybe... Thanks giving? Something like that.

What part of "emergency" don't people understand? Car accident... you got shot... you lost the remote.
One of these things just doesn't belong here...

I dont understand why she wasnt given a refund in the first place, was the manager not around that day?
There's probably no "REFUND" button on the cash register. Seriously, cashiers aren't as efficient nor clear thinking like they were 20+ years ago.

dont know about McDonalds tills but most cashiers are not allowed to do refunds themselves, its something the manager has to do themselves, more so in big chain store.

Very true.

But I cannot imagine working in a place where there is not a single manager on duty.

any store ive ever worked has always had at least a member of middle management on duty who can take care of such issues, I find it hard to believe McDonalds isnt the same.

I certainly don't think she had a need to call 911, but she had a legit case to call a cop IMHO. They took her money and refused to give it back, nor were they prepared to deliver what she'd ordered and they'd implicitly promised to deliver by taking her money.

I've been in a couple of jobs where we've had situations where there was no manager on duty. Either the MOD was gone to the bank and there was no super, or the next shift manager was running late and the 1st manager was a douche nozel that didn't want to stay 1 minute past his shift and left when his shift was done.

Okay, so here I am, sitting in Panera. At the table behind me, a dad is talking to his 8- and 10-year old kids, asking them about 911. The conversation thus far has gone like this...

Dad: "If someone broke into our house, what would you do?"
Daughter: "I would call 911."
Son: "I would grab a knife and call 911."

Dad: "What if you were mugged in a dark alley, and someone stole your money? Would you call 911?"
Kids: "Yeah."

Dad: "What would you do if you went to McDonalds for some chicken McNuggets and you paid for them, but then it turned out they were out of chicken McNuggets?"
Daughter: "I would want my money back."
Son: "Yeah, I would want my money back, too."
Dad: "Would you call 911?"
Daughter: "I don't think I would. That doesn't sound like an emergency."
Son: "Yeah, I'd want my money back, but I wouldn't call 911."

The dad then proceeded to tell his kids the exact story we are talking about in this thread.

Daughter: "I'm gonna go get some water."
Dad: "If they were out of water, would you call 911?"
Daughter: "No."
Dad: "Good, that would be an improper use of 911."
Daughter: "I know."
