But you should be!Meh...I guess I'd try giving it a shot with my kids. They aren't too picky yet!![]()
I love the book as well as Wolfgang Peterson's 1984 film adaption, hell I own the crap DVD. That said for once I wouldn't mind somebody else taking a shot at it as the 1984 version only liberaly adapts only the first half of the novel. A more direct adaptation would be my preferance this time around.
I've suggested this idea more than once, and many fans don't seem to like it.I enjoy the original movie as much as anyone else who grew up in the '80s, and it's certainly the best adaptation to date (the sequels don't count for me), but it is still only half the story.
And, quite frankly, compared to the original, german book by michael ende, the movie sucked, big time.
The new pic -- which original producer Dieter Geissler also will produce and Sarah Schechter and Jesse Ehrman will oversee for Warners -- will examine the more nuanced details of the book that were glossed over in the first pic.

That's what I thought too, even though I'm a child of the 80s. But I knew the book before seeing the movie and I remember I was really disappointed when I went home from cinema.
Still, I just want them to get it right this time and this quote makes me a bit hopeful they might:
