Enterprise season 1. I can't speak of season 2, which also must be bad based on what I'm reading here, because season 1 was the first time I ever gave up on Star Trek.

So my vote is ENT, Season 4, the shameless wannabe season.

I actually think you make a good argument and good points as well. I have to disagree, as I enjoyed Season 4.

Enterprise season 4 would've been better with less reliance on "all things trek past" in one single season.

On the flip side, Enterprise would've been better as whole, with more things "trek past"... just not so crammed into one season, but more spread out and developed over time.

I have to say, I was very in favor of the shift in Vulcans from the early years to the latter years. It made a lot of sense to do that in season 4, yet adds a nice interesting complexity to the series overall, imo.

You know, I hope I'm not derailing the thread, but I never did get the love affair everyone had with Dead Stop. Back when it first aired I found it really boring and not in any way interesting. Then I check out the internet and everyone loves it, even people who regularly bashed Enterprise found it enjoyable. I then re-watched it when a re-run aired, to see if maybe I missed something the first time around. I ended up hating it moreso then before. So what gives? What's so great about it?

I liked the beginning of the episode, how the Enterprise was in a tough spot, it would take them decades to make it back to earth, and it was time they found help from someone. It made for good atmosphere of what Enterprise was supposed to be.

The idea of an automated space station, that trades you for supplies and repairs your ship... I really liked that as a concept.

Also, it introduced Enterprise to... (sorry I'm not sure what to call or explain this)... however they turn "matter" into food. With Trip getting a pan-fried catfish. Which also led to the question of the Station downloading Enterprise data, without the Enterprise's consent...

Then the fact the station "abducts" humanoids as the power supply for the station... that was fairly creepy to me.

Good effects with the spacestation and the torpedo launch by the Enterprise (again, this show is SOOOOOO much better in HD... and I say that as someone whom really only see's the amazing difference in HD for sporting events)

Add the "twilight zone" spin at the end.. where the station is able to start repairing itself...

My kind of episode. Interesting concept. Correct atmosphere and characterization. Little creepiness thrown in.
That sums it up pretty good, I guess. Thanks, Alex1939. :)

Although I could have done without the needless death of Mayweather.

ENT season 2 definately. i actually found myself getting bored with trek. i never thought that would ever happen,

I can actually understand the reasons people dislike season four of Enterprise. I will cede that it was creatively lacking and something of a wannabe season, but disagree that it wasn't somewhat entertaining.

TOS 3: yeah, it was bad, no question. I didn't realize how bad while watching in syndication over the years, but the drop-off is obvious when watching sequentially on DVD.

TNG 1&2: I had hope for the series in 87 - that was a little tough to maintain due to some rough eps in season 1 & 2: I'd rate them between TOS season 2 & 3 (only rarely worse).

DS9 1-3: I wouldn't call these "bad" - just largely boring. They were "just OK" in every sense to me. Better than TOS 3, I guess. About like TNG 1-2, but more consistently mediocre.

Voyager: These were a blur of "don't care" and "major suckage," with an OK episode every now and then, unti I gave up around season 4 (thuogh I checked in now and again). I'd rate what I saw as about equal to TOS 3 overall.

Enterprise: I really had hopes for this. The exploratory spirit set in the early days? Sign me up! But the ball was dropped badly in the first two seasons. Season 4 wasn't too bad - fairly decent in fact, but season one was just awful (to me). So it gets my vote as worst season.

I agree it was to much PILLED on to one season, but that dosen't mean I love it any less:cool:

I refused to watch Enterprise anymore part way into Season 2, so I can't comment on the subsequent seasons.

But from the Trek I have seen...

Let me put it this way; We should all thank the stars that Star Trek, after being re-introduced to the television audience by the horrendous disaster that was TNG S1, somehow managed to not only survive but experience the explosive growth in popularity it did during the 90's.

Honorable mention to TNG S2, the entire premise of ENT, and the bulk of Voyager.

I've only seen ENT S1 and S2 once, the first times they aired (and then I gave up on it, which was really sad, because until that point I never thought I'd give up on an ST show. But after the snowballing disappointment that was VOY, followed by Insurrection and Nemesis, and then S1/S2 of Enterprise...) That's why I voted for TNG S1 over either of those two; I've seen TNG S1 more than once, so I can say for sure that, "Yes, this was really and truly unwatchable."

I don't think it's fair to vote on 2 seasons of Trek I don't even remember well. I think I'd have to go through and try to watch each episode-for-episode (i.e. air one TNG S1 episode, then one ENT S1 episode, back and forth, but I shudder just thinking of it. I tried to do a re-watch-through of TNG recently and found that I just couldn't make it through S1.

With DS9 and VOY, at least you can say that even the worst seasons produced interesting episodes (I mean, S1 of DS9 was pretty uneven, but it still produced Duet.)

For me, VOY was most promising at the start, when I had hopes they'd do more with character growth, plot arcs, and interesting new aliens. VOY was frustrating because of wasted potential - you could see that they had material there, they just needed to do something more with it. ENT, I'm not so sure anything was there. Sure, the premise is great, but the characters...I don't really know. I'm a fan of big ensemble casts (DS9, nu-BSG), so ENT's attempt at getting a new Big Three did nothing for me.

I suppose you have to factor in the idea of what's worse: boring, or appallingly bad? Because ENT S1 and S2 bored me, where TNG S1 is just...appallingly bad.

I am just now watching all of Enterprise from beginning to end. I have only watched S1. So far I don't think it is anywhere near as bad as it could be. Sure there is some odd choices, needless techno-babble, and lack of a real sense of danger. On the other hand there is a strong development of the characters, some cool action/sci-fi, and I think the introduction of Trek history has actually been pretty good.

I have gone on record as not liking Voyager in total so I won't pick any one season and bag on it.

So undoubtedly it is TNG S1. There are too many moments where watching the first season is not just bad it is palpably uncomfortable. Bad doesn't really describe it a times, more that it is just odd, like I am not sure why what is going on on-screen is going on for. Why would somebody say that line? Why would someone use that expression? Why is there such a long silence here? Could someone have written something this preachy and corny and thought it was good? Often the whole tone of the show felt forced like the actors were ad-libbing their lines. Writers in 1987 should have known what it means to hit your viewers upside the head with a sledgehammer when your trying to make a point.

Wow, that's a tough vote. Season One of TNG is SO weird and "off" as mentioned above, but Season Two has Pulaski, whom I've moved from loathing to tolerating (made easier in the knowledge that she's gone after one season), but meh, still not too keen on either season, usually watching only a handful of eps of both seasons.

TOS 3 is pretty horrible, but I enjoy it a ton as comedy, obviously NOT what the producers intended, but I can't vote "worst" to something that makes me laugh.

So I'll go with TNG 2.

TNG season five. 'I, Borg' enough said.

"I, Borg" is from season 6, and yes that was a pretty weak season, but there are some excellent episodes in it like "Ship in a Bottle", "A Fistful of Datas", and "Chain of Command". I thought "I, Borg" was one of the better episodes of that season, actually. I think every Star Trek series got off to a shaky start, except (surprisingly), the first one. "Star Trek" had some of its most fun episodes right off the bat, like "The Naked Time" and "The Enemy Within". They were cheesy, but so very entertaining, unlike TNG and DS9 season 1 episodes which tended to be really boring and corny in a way that makes you want to cringe. I think DS9 is a little better, but they're both hard to get through. Still, worth it once you get to the later seasons, because things established in those episodes pay off in much better ones later. I've barely seen any Enterprise of Voyager, so I can't judge their seasons.

The production values and effects in TNG seemed cheesier as well, and have aged terribly.

Um, I meant the first season's production values and effects in TNG, not TNG's vastly superior later seasons.:cardie:

And TNG's Season Six was actually a very strong collection of episodes, with "Chain of Command" being one of my favourites.

I don't see any sense of creativity in ENT Seasons 1 & 2. To me they were mostly rehashes made up of Trek-Past Mad Libs. "We've entered a (three-word scientific adjective) made of (noun) and (noun)." And if all else failed, shoot 'em. Also, no sense of development, no sense of advancement, no sense of character (Reed Vs. Hayes for an entire season, however, did wonders for both... and that was S3).

Now, with all that said, with so much to be just darn angry about (and whether or not I have the right to be angry as a Trek fan is a discussion for another day), I will say that I voted for TNG S1 in the end. Oy gevalt, ENT Seasons 1 & 2 were bad, but TNG S1 was both bad AND politically incorrect, when it was known even back then to try to be good and politically correct. It's one thing to be a horrible season, it's another to be both horrible AND achieve the exact opposite that you were gunning for.

I voted ENT season 1 since it simply could NOT keep my interest. And believe me, I really wanted to be interested. I didn't think I could find Trek boring until then. TNG season 1 was very...odd, yes, but every now and then it demonstrated that it just might become at least OK, and then it got a lot better than that.

Season one of TNG was painful to watch - Wesley was at his utmost annoying all the way through!
