Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role
AintItCool News and Latino Review are reporting that actors Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) and Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) turned down the role of Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern. Apparently 37 year-old Nathan Fillion has been deemed "too old" by the studio. Sam Worthington (Marcus Wright in the upcoming Terminator Salvation) also had to reject the role due to scheduling conflicts. Anton Yelchin, the new Chekov in Star Trek and also co-starring in Salvation as Kyle Reese, is currently in consideration.
Personally, I find all those names loathsome. Gosling would have been passable but Speed Racer? Chekov? C'mon. These are kids (and I know I practically am one too...)! I imagine a thirtysomething like Fillion as Hal Jordan. A Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Star Wars type. Not these guys.
I hope Martin Campbell, who went with Daniel Craig as James Bond, rejecting the other candidates because he considered them too young, does the same here with Hal Jordan. I don't know about all of you, but I'd honestly want to see a Daniel Craig-type in the role over any of these guys.
What do you think?
