Trek 11's ship IS the Enterprise

No, it's not beautiful.

The more angles there are of this shitfest, the worse it gets.

That "thing" looks like it's the unnatural love-child of the TOS Enterprise and the TMP-Enterprise, after its been forced out of a constipated a-hole, the pressure deforming it into a misshapen turd.

And the more I look at it, and the more ways I see it, the more obvious this gets.

Now tell us how you realy feel about it !

I'm sure that is a completely unbiased opinion with no premeditated "reasoning." :guffaw:

 Yes, I've heard that one like a million times before, but while that "suggestion" is plenty condescending, it isn't a particularly good one in light of all the pictures, video, and information that's known about the movie. Actually seeing the ship in the movie or the plot playing out isn't going to change the fact that I don;t care for either one.

Frankly, how is waiting till the movie condescending? Music, television, movie, literary, poetry critics all have to wait till the final product before they can officially judge something, despite trailers, advance notice, reputation of the creator, etc. etc. It's the only way to see and judge a final product, by making sure it IS the final product. For all the pictures and video and information we have, we've still only seen about, what, a handful of actual minutes from the movie itself. That's how critical analysis plays out. This is how experiments are monitored till the end. This is how legal systems play out.

The condescending attitude that I myself see is the whole rolling of eyes smiley.

Can you imagine just how screwed up this world would be if everything were prejudged, negative and positively, for a length of time before anything actually happened? Politics, science, the arts. Nothing would ever get done, ever.

Again seeing the ship in the movie won't make me like it - I've already seen it and I don't like it. The same goes for everything else visual I've seen. I've also seen spoilers about the plot, and so far nothing I've seen as far as that goes will suddenly change my opinion of it upon viewing of the movie. In my experience in discussing this movie, or really anything upcoming that's been spoiled (TATV for example), the "you should wait until it comes out" statement has only ever come from people who have already pre-judged themselves but in the positive, and they just don't like seeing the criticism.

Sorry, but I tend to roll my eyes when someone suggests something stupid, it's a character flaw I have.

This thread is about the ship, and we can see how it looks - there's nothing to pre-judge.

You really have to have been following The Wormhole's posts all along to get what he's on about (and yes, he's been quite consistent for months, now.) Simply dropping in and laying an oh-so-mature "Wow, mature" on it like that is, well... missing the point entirely, for one thing.
What point? That he thinks anyone who's critical of the movie is a virgin who lives in his parents' basement? If I'm missing the point, could you perhaps point it out to me?

The complex intricacies of how I post are myriad and too numerous to outline in just one post. Simply accept the fact that I made a joke and move on.

uh,,,
sorry there is so much conflicting info we dont really have a lot of definitive spoilers.
unlike tatv where we pretty much knew most of the plot and the major spoilers from a trusted source.

we now even have people outright saying a lot of the stuff out there isnt right.

we dont even know how much time passes from kirk's going into the academy and his arrival on enterprise.

i may end up not liking this movie but right now i know so little about how things will play out i know i cant make a judgement until i actually see it.

so for me the
the "you should wait until it comes out" statement has only ever come from people who have already pre-judged themselves but in the positive, and they just don't like seeing the criticism

dosnt make sense..

as for the ship.. i like most of it except for the nacelles and the stupid hostess stand on the bridge.

but then i wasnt to thrilled with the enterprise d at first (reminded to a degree of the ship from battle beyond the stars.. well wthout the breasts)
but it gradually grew on me.

but if the movie has an interesting plot and is true to the spirit of the characters i can live with a ship design i am not in love with.

ps by the way there have been a lot of things i wound up liking a lot after first thinking i wouldnt after reading some spoilers.

the enterprise fourth season episode observer effect is one.
there are tv shows, movie and books i in the end liked after thinking i wouldnt after reading something like about them.

I know I gonna sound stupid, but I don't like it. Tis not TOS style.

I'm a Die-Hard TOS fan, so I like my Trek to look like it is in the right time period. This looks nothing like TOS enterprise.

The nacelles are too close together, too tapered at the end and too fat at the front.
I agree. I kind of like the rest of the ship, but I thought the nacelles were fugly when I first saw them and my opinion hasn't changed. Despite all of the new views we've had of the ship. They're too close together thanks to the curve in the nacelle pylons and they are just too bulky. Don't like them.

Which are all negligable points IMHO.

I like the ship a little bit better now. The first images that came out last year did not impress me, but perhaps it was the angles in those original photos.

How so?
I'm not sure if TPTB were going for a "large nacelle equals a powerful engine capable of propelling a ship to faster then light speed look" or what their thinking was in making it so huge. But IMHO they failed. I prefer the smaller sleeker look of TOS and TMP. If the nacelles looked like Polaris's model in this pic:
drbenterprise_1s.jpg

or even Gabe's
enterprise_orbit_1080.jpg

it would have been much better.

I prefer Gabe's, but that's not what wer'e getting. And the nacelles on the top picture look more suited during the ENT-ERA or a little after the ENT-ERA.

For purely aesthetic reasons alone, I wouldn't like it. It has some nice details and design elements, but overall impression just does not work. Proportions are just odd, and the design is not unified. Why add a lot of organic curves all over the ship, and then remove the conclave from the saucer and make it flat? As much as an oddity from an engineering perspective that feature was, it would've fit much better with this new star drive section than the new flat saucer. And engines are indeed huge and bulky. I understand that they wanted to make them look powerful, and had they not been squeezed so close together, it might have even worked. Also, big engines is a bad combination with these bendy pylons that that look like they are melting. If neck on the old design looked like it could snap, these new pylons look like they could break at any moment at their thinnest point, which is just below the bulkiest part of these huge engines.

I was prepared that they would change the ship to look unrecognisable from the 60s design in order to make it look new and cool. I had not prepared them to fail this badly with the "looking cool" part. There are numerous fan-made versions that exhibit much cleared design principles, better sense of balance and proportion, and ultimately achieve far more pleasing and unified look.
