Trek 11's ship IS the Enterprise

You really have to have been following The Wormhole's posts all along to get what he's on about (and yes, he's been quite consistent for months, now.) Simply dropping in and laying an oh-so-mature "Wow, mature" on it like that is, well... missing the point entirely, for one thing.

So let me get this right. The only woman you ever BANGED was the ENTERPRISE!:wtf:

Then call me a BLASPHEMER because it ain't PERFECT!:p

FOR THE LAST TIME! this is a NEW universe:scream:!! it DOSEN'T HAVE TO FIT in to the original timeline! GAAWWDDD!!! get OVER it! Maybe if trek were SUCCESFUL over the past decade we woulden't be getting this new universe? you ever THINK about that? mmmkay!?:p
miraclefan, try to be careful about triple-posting. Use of the Multi-Quote button to combine multiple replies would be encouraged here. Also less SHOUTING! ;)

Edit:

I have grown to like the new ship but it does have a 1950s retro look, ST-One.

Heh, how did I know even before I clicked that it would be that thread? :D

What point? That he thinks anyone who's critical of the movie is a virgin who lives in his parents' basement? If I'm missing the point, could you perhaps point it out to me?

I'm liking/accepting the 1701 redesign more and more as release date approaches...but I'm still no fan per se. The Kelvin is a much better looking ship overall.

Oh, look the classic Enterpise used these nacelle front/end caps:

These comparisons are quite the stretch... even the first time I saw them.

Wow. This thread is four pages longer already.

Personally, I understand that they wanted to update the design, and I understand why. I know this isn't 1969. I frankly didn't want them to use an unaltered version of the TOS ship, but I also dislike several aspects of the new design.

And of course it's not. It's a new version of that ship, just as these actors are playing new versions of the TOS characters. This ship is Kirk's Enterprise, just as that ship was Kirk's Enterprise. It's simply a first version and a second version.

Agreed.

So the Tumbler really isn't the Batmobile?

Don't open that can of worms! As practical as it may be, I hate that thing. :p

I agree that the nacelles are too close (which emphasizes how bulky and big they are compared to the 1701's nacelles of the past), and that the secondary hull sticks out too forward.

Same here. Otherwise it doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, with those 'fixes' I'd be okay with it.

See, this is how I feel. Although I'd say I'm not so much a fan of the Kelvin design as I am the styling of the Kelvin.

Ya know what, of all the differences in these ships, they are afterall, the same ship just different interpretations.

I acccept that NuEnt is the OldEnt and vise-versa. I can live it, its not the end of the world as some make out and for fuck sake, who cares. Its the same ship just updated a little more agressively than we'd hoped.

Some design aspects i dont like as much as the next guy, but hey what can i do, the movies been made.

Id prefere a more faithful re-design yeah, but we got what we got. The only view i like of her so far is the one in my avatar, and im still not sure on that either. But i like the view so much that i now have faith that maybe itll pay off in theatres in May. Still not sure on it though, but im looking on the bright side.

And if your still not happy with it, when the movie comes out on dvd, you can whack into Nero Editor Plus and splice in effects from TOS/Trek Remastered and then be happy with it.

And help you build a new straw man? Not a chance.

Do your own homework, and stop trying to put words in the mouths of others, as you were just trying to do for The Wormhole right there. That sort of thing is lazy, it's dishonest debate and you've been doing far too much of it lately. Cool it before it bites you in the ass.

So basically you're admitting that there was no point. I responded to a post he made and pointed out that his statement was immature. Last time I checked, sarcasm was not considered trolling or flaming, either, otherwise 3/4 of the posters on this board would be perma-banned.

Okay, I'll bite -- so, Captain X, what exactly is the difference between you and, say, The Wormhole, MattJC, Captain Robert April, xortex, BigC and uniderth?

What is 'immature' is sitting around worrying about everyone else's behavior besides your own and justifying your own piss-poor behavior with the actual or imagined actions/words of others.

How about you do us all a favor and put a couple of posters on 'ignore'?

You'll be much happier. No doubt they would be much happier. And I KNOW the mods in here would be much happier.

Otherwise, quit taking this all so seriously. I mean, Jesus! It's just a movie! :scream:

Well that picture proves two things.

A. The TOS Enterprise was a beautiful ship, and be cleaned up quite nicely for some modern applications.

B. The new ship is a very nice design that embraces some of the things that made the TOS so lovely, but ups the detail for a big screen debut.

I like both.

^^ Looks like airbrushed artwork above a NASA still. I just don't get the love for painterly representations of starships. If you can't get the CG to make it look physical, then build a miniature. That's why I never buy the SHIP OF THE LINE Calendars, I'd love calendars of starships, but not of cartoon starships.

Nothing imagined about being called a "Star Trek Fundamentalist" or a "zealot" for having a critical opinion about a movie.

How about you do us all a favor and put a couple of posters on 'ignore'?
Or you could, like, I don't know, warn or at least friendly people who deserve it instead of focusing on someone because you don't like their opinion about a movie.

You'll be much happier. No doubt they would be much happier. And I KNOW the mods in here would be much happier.
I used to feel sorry for the mods in this forum because of the crap they would no doubt have to deal with on a daily basis, but since it has become very apparent that there's a really bad bias in favor of anyone who identifies themself as a fan of the movie, most of my sympathy has since evaporated.

Otherwise, quit taking this all so seriously.
The funny thing is that really I'm not; I actually find it a little amusing that the best most of the people here can do is to insult critics instead of having a discussion of any real substance, or even having a light-hearted discussion.

I mean, Jesus! It's just a movie! :scream:
 Gee, really? I thought it was a historical record.

BolianAdmiral,

Holy hell...that's a huge picture. Can you resize that for easier viewing? :)

This design only pisses off some of the fans.

If by "some" you really mean the True Fans, then yes I agree. It only takes a true, legitimate Star Trek fan who has never known the touch of tits or pussy to be properly outraged by the insult that is the new Enterprise.

Anyone not offended by this redesign? You're clearly not a Trek fan. Now go bang your girlfriend and leave Trek for those of us who truly care.

:wtf: I really want to think this is a joke, but considering in the past you have not been too fond of what's been being reported about this movie, having you satirize hard core/fundamentalist fans makes it hard to believe.

Oh, darn... I think someone already beat you to it...

Sorry, lol. :)

[Oversized image converted to link. - M']
In the future, kindly keep images to dimensions no larger than 640x480 and filesize no larger than 70 Kb. (This was 3000x2400 and 1020.41 K, for comparison's sake, which is way too large for an inline image. Using a thumbnail linking to the larger image would have been better.

By the way, are you Joe Siegler?

So basically you're admitting that there was no point.
I admitted no such thing, because such is not the case.

And didn't I just say something to you about putting words in the mouths of others? That's a lazy trick and a second-rate trolling tactic. No wonder you were complaining about not being able to get a straight answer to your questions in another thread: everyone could tell you were setting up straw men, because you do it so obviously.

I responded to a post he made and pointed out that his statement was immature.
And you completely missed the point. You really ought to make sure you know where someone stands (and Wormhole really has been quite clear on many occasions, if only you had taken the trouble to show up and pay attention once in a while) before trying to take a cheap potshot.

Last time I checked, sarcasm was not considered trolling or flaming, either, otherwise 3/4 of the posters on this board would be perma-banned.
No, sarcasm is not so considered. But that tool isn't the one you were employing, was it?
