Painting

Well here's something to whet your whistle.

This would be my interpretation of DEATH

Well, more like Ingmar Bergman's. :p

Sorry, I couldn't help it. It's quite nice. I really like the wizard a lot, too. I love his face for some reason. :techman:

TSQ, your pencil drawing is really well done, although there's something slightly unsettling about it.

My latest painting is more an attempt with some texture. I wanted to add oomph to the sky so I piled on the paint:

Sadly texture loses a lot when you try to make it 2D with a picture.

When painting landscapes, consider making the colours paler and less vivid in the distance near the horizon, both on land and in the sky. Also, textures should be softer in the distance than in the foreground. Creating this contrast in colour-saturation and texture should help to create a feeling of depth, which should help to emphasize your textures. :)

^^ True. However, in this case, the heavy texture gives a nice impression of a threatening storm lumbering over the horizon and overwhelming the sky. If that was the intent, then it works very well. :)

Bingo, the grape gets a cookie. It was after we had such foreboding clouds hanging in the sky this past week that I wanted to make the focus of the painting on the sky and have the tree almost blend in.

It's not a happy painting is it? He he he.

I haven't done any painting in a good long while, in fact no serious non-digital art in almost a year now. I kind of miss the physical mediums, but the control freak in me likes the undo button a little too much.

Some great stuff in this thread from all of you.

I'm working on some (mostly)3d stuff for a video game project at the moment, nothing too terribly impressive, but I'm getting a lot more confident with it and I'm surprised at how much better I am now after not doing this sort of thing for several years.

Elf-like person

Tile-able textures for environments

Your textures are really cool. I especially like the more sand and the grass.

And your scroober looks like it could be really cool when finished.

Those were done in Silo, which I just picked up about a week ago when I decided it was time to start focusing on getting up to speed so I could hopefully work on getting a job doing this stuff someday soon. I'm pretty proficient with Lightwave, which I've used in the past for sub-d modeling for animation (spaceships and the like), but it isn't great for game art so I needed to move on to a new program. Silo is very limited in comparison to everything lightwave can do, but it does what it does very well.

Finished another just now: 'Nother monster.

^^ That's my favorite so far. :D

Silo looks nice and is reasonably priced; I'll have to look at the details and see if it's compatible with Poser, which is what I use for organic figures.

It's like the emu of death. Oh wait that's a normal emu.

EVERYTHING exports to .obj and it exports to a lot of other stuff, so you shouldn't have problems getting it into whatever you want to get it into.
