More Dollhouse hysteria.

No, men are not pigs.

Yes they are. But don't feel bad, women are pigs, too. I predict this show will fail due to losing the female audience due to the tragic lack of hot guys in the cast. ;)

Yeah, that's what I said: if men are pigs, women are just as bad if not worse.

However, men are not pigs, and neither are women. Being sexually attracted to people does not make you a pig, it makes you a healthy human being.

A friend of mine used to go on and on about Helio back when Battlestar was fun.

Lets see...

The brother from Jounrneyman? Not terrible, but middle aged.

Enver Gojki? Who? Sounds Russian but looks generic Italian. Young though.

Harry lennix? He looked Good in the Matrix movies, but bored the shit out of me in Commander in Chief, and again middle aged.

Mark Sheppard? Amazing he was on battlestar too, and Firefly alumni, but kinda grotty looking and again middle aged.

No straight females are going to be watching this show with a hand lost down there abouts in the folds of their skirt. Teenage girls create celebrities beyond the quality of whatever show they might be on, with all those glossy magazines and what ever has replaced them since tech became so star trekky, and I do not see a Davey Jones, a David Cassady or a Johnathan Brandis in this lot.

I predict Fox keeps TSCC, cancels Dollhouse soon and the Whedonesque zombies go crazy

Likely, although the degree of crazy will be dependent on (a) how good it actually is, and (b) how obvious it is going in that it doesn't have a chance. Which is fairly.

FIREFLY was different and if handled properly by Fox, it would have been a huge hit.

I think it'll be some time before any space-based science fiction show will survive for any length of time on a major network.

Probably almost exactly the length of time between now and whenever that live action Star Wars series we've been promised gets released.

You know, I've had some discussions with people about that and I'm not so sure it's a guaranteed hit like some people think it will be. While I'm sure it will have moderate success in the worst case scenario (2-3 seasons?), assuming that everyone who goes to see Star Wars movies is going to turn in weekly to watch the TV show would be folly, and that's what a lot of people do. The general population will shell out for a big, hyped-up movie every few years, but tuning in weekly for something so "geeky" is probably not on most people's agenda.

That doesn't even take into account the fact that it might suck ass.

Well - not everyone who goes to see the movies, but I bet it'll have a much bigger audience of devoted fans than a normal scifi show and probably enough brand recognition to get people dropping in every now and then.

Well, I'd have a hard time arguing against stj's charge of the show being the "adventures of robo-ho" after that promo.

For those for whom this matters, Dollhouse is available on Hulu now. Hopefully they'll be posting the full episodes as they air, as they're already doing with T:TSCC

Oooh man, a friend of mine just called to make sure I knew about this new show called "Dollhouse" that he just heard about on NPR. :rommie: Cuz he knew I liked that other show by the same guy, wassisname, the space cowboy thing...

It's funny talking to normal folks who don't care about this stuff till 24 hours before they actually yknow, happen.

A friend of mine used to go on and on about Helio back when Battlestar was fun.
Yknow, I just don't see it. Helo is the epitome of fugly for me. Anders, tho...rrrrowwwrrr!
and I do not see a Davey Jones, a David Cassady or a Johnathan Brandis in this lot.

Right on target with the examples, :bolian: but Milo Ventimiglia is the current gold standard. Paramedics uniform or not...

There was fanboy hype? I thought pretty much everyone had resigned to a wait-and-see attitude for this one. If you're talking about Whedon hype in general, he has given a lot of us some pretty damn good reasons to expect greatness from him. This, unfortunately, looks to be -only- "good" tv, rather than his previous high of "Ruttin' Fantastic".

After watching it, I have to admit I don't quite get the logic behind the premise. I mean why exactly do they need to re-program these people when, as one of the characters pointed out, you can already hire someone to do all those things at a fraction of the price? The "because it's more extreme and rich people are like that" explanation seams a bit odd too. I mean an extreme hostage negotiator? Really?!

If the show took place in some odd dystopian future I might buy it, but since it's the here and now it just feels like a thin excuse to make a cross between Alias and Quantum Leap (sans time travel.)

Yeah, I didn't quite gel to the idea that the client knew what he was getting. I would have preferred them just knowing about this extremely pricey and exclusive 'temp agency' that can find someone to do any job they could ever possibly require. Why would you tell your clients in this situation that the person is a mindless drone programmed to act a certain way and know certain things. . . aren't they at all worried that one might rat them out about the ethical issues there?

Well the client seemed to know, he said something along the lines of "How do I know you weren't a clown yesterday?"

Ethical issues?

Ethical issues could indeed be one reason. How do you make sure the rich guy or girl your proposing your drone to wouldn't turn you in in disgust? However, that wouldn't be the greatest reason you would never tell any of your clients what it is they're getting exactly; whether they have ethical issues or not.

PLEA BARGAINS.

The IRS, the FBI, the DEA or whoever gets a hand on one of your clients for a crime they comited; and do you think the amoral assholes won't rat you out to get a reduced sentence or get off entirely?

The first rich guy or girl that gets taken in by one of them, will go, "What are you willing to do for me, if I can give you a much bigger fish than some rich guy doing a little recreational drug use? Hmm?"

"You know the supplier?"

"Oh, no, much, much bigger than that."

It doesn't make any sense at all.
