Latecomer To This: JANEWAY DIED?!?

Not open for further replies.
Kes was dead already

Kes isn't dead; she left to go back to Ocampa.

Ok, I keep seeing this posted in this thread and the carrot thread and I need to point something out; Janeway's death has not been confirmed as permanent, only that there are no plans to bring her back in the immediate future.

We've been told that Janeway is dead, dead, dead, and not coming back, and that future storylines are oriented around this fact. That's as permanent as it gets in this business.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

she's dead and gone, and so is basically the rest of the Voyager crew if reports here are to be believed. In my eyes that makes this Voyager relaunch a charade of sorts

Okay.

We can express our opinions and we can agree to disagree but we're not going to just start making shit up.

Eight of the nine series regulars were returned to the AQ at the end of Endgame. All eight of those characters, along with a number of recurring guests (people like Vorik, Icheb, Naomi Wildman, Samantha Wildman, Reg Barclay) are featured prominently in Full Circle.

To tell you how many are still around after Full Circle would spoil everybody's fun so I'm not going to do that but I am going to tell you that to suggest that from this point forward, the vast majority of featured characters in the ongoing Voyager novels are new faces is utterly and completely false. It's not even 50-50. Established canon characters still greatly outnumber those who only appear in the novels.

Sounds good to me :bolian:

...and I need to point something out; Janeway's death has not been confirmed as permanent, only that there are no plans to bring her back in the immediate future.

So in the meantime, why not sit back and see where this takes us. You never know, the results might surprise you.

I'm sorry, but whether Pocket Book has confirmed her death as permanent or not has little meaning to me as the result is the same; she's dead and gone, and so is basically the rest of the Voyager crew if reports here are to be believed. In my eyes that makes this Voyager relaunch a charade of sorts - at least calling it the Voyager relaunch; they might as well have called it something else.

I have no wish to read about other characters in other books that are basically strangers to me.

However, your opinions are valid in many cases and most likely for some here - just not me. :)

How does a mysterious and likely false report of one character death equal "basically the rest of the Voyager crew"? Kes was dead already, Neelix stayed behind, and Janeway died but wouldn't have been on the crew anyway; aside from this other unconfirmed thing from A Singular Destiny, everyone else is fine, and that's more retention of main characters than either DS9 or TNG has at this point.

Kes is not dead, she can be brought back.

Neelix could be brought back as well.

And Janeway could and should be brought back. I see no problem to put her in command of a ship, despite her rank.

However, I must also state that the Voyager characters were a bit damaged during the later seasons which has affected the relaunch as well.

But that can be changed.

Everything can be achieved with some will, skill and imagination.

Please don't take that as a "love it or leave it" comment, since I'm seriously interested:

If you want to change everything (and most of it was established on screen) anyway, why not search for an original novel/series that's more to your liking instead of getting riled up about books about a series you seem to have despised for most of it's run anyway?

No, because I haven't found such a novel series which is more to my liking.

I also think that the excellent Voyager characters are worth saving.

Don't you dare come in here quoting facts. ;)

The editors at Pocket disagree. That really ends the discussion. They've decided to focus on a core group out of the original cast and mix them in with new characters. Right or wrong... what's done is done.

Right or wrong... what's done is done.

Nope, what's done can be undone at any time, don't kid yourselves. I am here to undo it.

Brit

And I just find that incredibly sad (not trying to be mean). To waste that much time and effort on behalf of a fictional character.

Jim Kirk (my favorite ST character) died and I walked out of the theater and life continued on. Hell Star Trek is still going. If it can survive the death of Jim Kirk it sure in the hell can survive the death of Katherine Janeway.

Oh well. Off to the theater to see Friday the 13th with the wife. Never thought I'd see the day that I'd pay to see a movie with Nana Visitor in it. :p

Regardless I just can't understand why fans want to contrive some stupid way to bring the band back together just so the whole crew is in place.

Probably for the same reasons fans of TOS wanted the crew back together even though the show was cancelled after only three seasons. ;)
