How do you wear your watch?

I think the days of those larger-than-life business colossi able to be "the story", and crossover into politics, style and other arenas are over. Or at least, in temporary abeyance until the next big economic upswing.

Instead the corporate governance drones are now in charge. Makes for a more open & probably better business practices, but less opportunity for colourful swashbuckling like Agnelli's style too. :)

While I have a bunch of watches, I never wear one. Well, I occasionally wear one but it is very infrequent. When I do, it is left wrist, outside.

I couldn't agree more, when he died, it was truly the end of an era in Italy.

Since I'm a southpaw, I wear it on the right wrist on the outside since I find it faster to see the watch.

I believe proper watch etiquette requires that you wear it on the opposite hand from the one you write with (that's what I was taught anyway). If you're right-handed, you should be wearing it on your left wrist.

I was always told that proper etiquette said that it was on the left wrist, regardless.
My question is, is it "proper etiquette" to where a watch a certain way, or is it just what is "normal"? And, if there is an etiquette, what defines that?

I'm all for defying what's considered "normal" or proper etiquette, though it does help to know exactly which one I'm defying at a specific point in time.

Understandable. I'm pretty sure this is just what my mom told me at some point in life.

It's one of those "rules" that has no real purpose, like place settings at the dinner table. Who decided that the fork goes on the left and the knife goes on the right? It's the "proper way" to do it, but I have no idea why.

I guess I'm going to have to go along with the majority here and say left hand, outside of the wrist. I'm right-handed. Wearing it that way just feels natural to me... not sure why.

I always need to have my watch whenever I leave my apartment. I'd feel naked without it!

Yeah, I freak out if I discover that I forgot to put my watch on. I've had the same watch for the last 10 years, and the only time I don't have it on is when I'm showering, sleeping, or at the gym.

I also feel naked if I don't have a wallet and a pen in my right pants pocket and my chapstick in my left pocket.

I don't wear it. I tucked it in the little coin pocket of my jeans. :p Used to wear it on left wrist, face out but became annoyed with the "brand" and smarmy feeling at the end of the day.

I voted facing in, but I ware the bands of my watches very loose because it is more comfortable that way... but the face ends up on the inside almost all the time anyways.

Watch? What is this "Watch" You speak? *Looks at cellphone* :vulcan:

When I was a little kid I wore one on my left wrist. I'm left handed.

Havn't worn one in about 12 years though.

A more interesting question (and forgive me if it's in the thread already) is, if you're right handed, do you wear it on your left or right wrist, and vice versa?

I'm right handed and I wear it on my right wrist.

I've heard that whatever hand is your dominant hand you're supposed
to wear it opposite. But many time this hasn't been the case, such as
with you and I. I think it's mainly just a personal preference.

I never heard to use the opposite hand but it makes sense. When I first started wearing one I did have it on my right but changed after it kept getting in the way.

Supposed reasoning would be your ability to put it on using your dominant hand.

May have just been something I heard people tell me and not a widespread idea. :S

I almost never do, but on occasion, and especially if my get up requires jewelry, I'll wear my fairly decorative Bulova on my right wrist. it serves as a bracelet and a watch.

PS. I am ambidextrous.

I don't wear a watch because watches have a tendency to stop when I wear them.

OMG, same here!! what do you think is the reason? my doctor told me my electrical system is messed up. then again, he likes to mess with my mind

Ever heard of Indigo Kids?

you mean these? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo_children

I have a lot of those traits and some of the disorders, actually. but I don't fall into the age group. so, what are you saying, that the electric misalignment or whatever it is my GP was trying to tell me about is true and that he wasn't messing with me, and that it might have something to do with these... indigo kids business? should I get my aura checked? :p or are you messing with me too ;)

PS. it's amazing though how watches stop when I wear them (or slow down), almost every single time. whenever it happens, it makes me think of that old X-Files episode -- Soft Light :D
