Just finished Planet X.

When the X-Men show up in our universe they know who Picard is and there's talk of a previous adventure. Was there a cross over comic that came out before the book?

As for the book itself, it didn't do a lot for me but then I've never read an X-Men comic or seen any of the movies, I have read David Macks's Wolverine book though, so I'm guessing I'm not the target audience for this.

A lot of situations where they can only resolve them because they happen to have X-Men with just the right powers hanging around, which is to be expected but at one point Picard leaves the bridge to fly a shuttle, because they don't have pilots hanging around, only the bridge crew can fly shuttles I guess, and he turns to one of the X-Men and says "You have the bridge". Maybe in I'm being picky but that stretched my credulity even in this kind of book.

there was a comic called 'Second Contact' which had the E-E meeting the X-Men whilst en route from 2063 to 2375.

There was a comic book published right before this one involving the Original Series crew. It was godawful.

The first comic was definitely the best in this crossover trilogy. What made it doubly enjoyable for me was that it was a direct sequel to the TV episode Where No Man Has Gone Before. The second one didn't really do much for me, but I thought Planet X was okay when I first read it.

I remember thinking that the author - MJF, wasn't it? - made a surprisingly good rationale for the presence of mutants in the Star Trek universe. That book still remains on my 'guilty pleasures' list.

That "Second Contact" series, though... good god, that was awful.
