Duh..Duh..Duh..Lives

When they sped up the theme of DS9 for the forth season, and on, they had that driving base beat in the background..you know..duh duh duh duh...it plays through the song...

Well..it lives!!! I just heard this song, its a couple years ago, by Bon Jovi. It is a ballad and its called (Do You Wanna) Make A Memory, I think..any ways...the DUH DUH DUH base note is in that song, all the way through..even at then where it also fades out as it does on DS9's theme..check it out...what do you think???

The original DS9 theme reminded me a lot of Copland's "Fanfare For The Common Man". The season 4 remix seems to add a hint of "Chariots of Fire" theme to it.

You know? Thats not a bad analysis...I like both themes, actually. But I tilt toward the newer one, simply because the original theme is, sometimes, sleep inducing when its late at night and I want to watch a season 1-3 episode.. I have to FFWD past it so as not to fall asleep..

I did attend an ELP Concert way back when in S.F. and I can see your point, I never gave it much thought, however, it does make sense. And I did see C.O.F and in a way I can see your point... Good Post :)

I still prefer the quiet majesty of the original, but only just. :bolian:

Me too. It really fits the brooding (though extremely beautiful) image of Deep Space Nine itself.

(On that topic...am I the only one who finds Cardassian architecture much more aesthetically pleasing than that of the Federation?)

No, you're not alone. The Carassian architecture was such a departure from the clean, shiny metal Federation designs, but yet it didn't look too alien, and at the same time looked believable and functional. Even egotistical, down to the way all stations in Ops are in the shadow of the Prefect's office. Great design.

I wasn't too sure why the docking pylon design always managed to appear on various other buildings on Cardassia though. Sure, you look at it and instantly recognise it as Cardassian, but it seems a bit of an odd choice. (Same goes for the Bajoran symbol appearing absolutely everywhere, from commbadges to the shape of doors...)

I'm torn between the two versions of the theme tune. The original was reflected, to me, the show in a nutshell - quiet, understated, unassuming and overlooked by the louder, brasher themes on other shows, but with so much more going on. The new version definitely packed more of a punch and made the whole DS9 universe seem a little bit more dynamic, but I always felt the climax of the tune was a little overkill.

Grrr! I can't choose. Someone else make the decision for me :p

Plus you can peek out of your office any time to watch what's going on below, even if you're doing your paperwork. From the Cardassian perspective I'm sure that was considered a great idea (better not get caught slacking!), but from a Federation one...if you get bored with your paperwork, you have something interesting to look at besides staring at a wall, while you're taking a break. ;)

I also thought--if I recall correctly--that the Cardassians were the first in the Trekiverse to bring some COMMON SENSE to the "red alert" sound. And the lower lighting, too--much easier on the eyes. Funny how the Federation seems to adopt both things after taking control of DS9...but I have a feeling they would never give credit where credit is due... ;)

The Bajoran symbol made sense because I think it was a religious symbol. It's a lot like the cross motif in medieval European construction, at least the way I see it.

Just curious, what would you have chosen as a Cardassian motif?
