Appendix has been removed

I was surprised to find my appendix gone one day along with a few indexes as well. Never let the kids play with your reference books.

But I'm starting to get a little fed up with not knowing what happens next.

The alien's due to emerge in about a week or so.
Where's John Hurt when you need him.

(seriously, ask the doc's when you go in, but you may just get a "play it by ear" type answer.)
Yeah, I think that's why I'm fed up, thinking "They'll probably just say see how it goes, again." I just kinda want someone to recommend what to do, rather than leaving the choice to me.
It's kinda like a good news/bad news situation. "Good news, your wound is healing quickly, bad news, you have an oozing cavity that will heal on it's own but could get infected."

Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress, Bob. Kick back with some John Wayne movies. That should take your mind off things. :)

So far I've watched Quantum Leap seasons 2 & 3, Enterprise season 1 (first time since it aired, and I thought it was better than the first time), Battlestar Galactica season 4.0, Skins series 1, Dara O'Briain Talks Funny, Russell Howard Live, and Futurama Bender's Game. I've also played through Gears of War 2, Mirror's Edge, half of Prince of Persia, and half of Bourne Conspiracy, and read book 5 of Codex Alera, 3 Nightside books and started a forth. How's that for trying to take my mind off it?

Sounds like you're doing a good job. :) Do you have family around to help?
Yeah, I've been staying at my parents since the operation. Luckily we live on the same street. My mam's been taking good care of me, and my dad has been worrying about everything, "Shouldn't you have those stockings on?" "Aren't you supposed to be resting?" "Shouldn't you go to hospital rather than wait for the nurse?" I think the fact I had that bleed while he was the only one here has made him very nervous about it.

Are those stockings the fetching ones to stop you getting thrombosis and keep the blood circulating? I had those, too, once. Best not show the girls the stockings. Glad there are folks around to worry about you.

Yeah, sexy white stockings, that make you look like you've never worn a pair of shorts and are in desperate need of a tan.

Well I saw the doctor today, he seems happy with the way it's going. He said to tell the nurse to treat me as she would any other patient, my other health problems should have no bearing on this "superficial" wound. He said he's not concerned with how things are going at all, and it looks to be clean and granulating well, so he'll see me for a check up in another couple of months. Hopefully at which point it will be fully healed.

Awesome news! So you've gone from gaping wound to "superficial" - nice work :)
Well, no... it's still fairly big, but it's less than half of what it was, they're fitting 1 piece of packing(or less) in there compared to 3 pieces a few weeks back.
I think he means superficial as in surface wound/not dangerous, rather than shallow... the nurse laughed when I said he called it superficial.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted! Still, it is getting better. Although I now have the image of the nurse stuffing your wound cavity full of polystyrene bits, which is odd to stay the least... :wtf:

Time for another update, the nurse said yesterday that the cavity is now too small for her to fit her little finger in, so now they're packing with a probe or half of a forceps. And the wound itself is smaller too, tissue is growing kinda at an angle, so it's right near the surface at the top and only around 2cm deep(guesstimate) at the bottom. The nurse says we're probably on the final stretch as far as healing goes. So fingers crossed it shouldn't be too much longer.

Good news. Soon you'll have to get up and do some actual moving about and doing things for yourself... bummer.

Oh I've been up and about for a while, occasional shopping trips, been to cinema once or twice. I'm still not doing a lot, but then again I never did a lot.
Bending is still a little difficult and there's some odd aches and pains here and there, but mostly I feel pretty much how I always do. Which is to say not fantastic, but normal for me.
Funny thing is now that I'm up and about more, I feel more bored than I did when I was mostly laid in bed.

Sounds like you're well on the mend now!

Always knew Skutters had good self-repair systems...

Brilliant news - well, apart from the bored bit! Get yourself some new DVDs to watch.
I think that's part of the problem, I have so much built up on my media centre(around 150 hours of recorded TV) and DVDs (christmas prsents or stuff I've bought while recovering) it's kinda daunting thinking about watching it all. I've spent most of the last week playing Fallout 3 and the amount of recordings have just been getting larger, so I deleted about 30 hours and still have 150 to watch.

Yeah, the nurses are impressed how fast it healed, but by the sounds of it they're used to treating the elderly, and things taking forever.

Another pic for the curious

The nurse yesterday "measured" the depth the cavity with a probe, it's now around 2.5cm (~1 inch deep), which is great compared to the 8-9cm(3 to 3.5") it was at the start. Now I'm feeling more comfortable bending and stretching, held my nephew for the first time since the op this week too. :)
