new starship design

How about this for a new starship design...

Take a GALAXY class vessel and flip it upside down and give it longer necells...

thoughts? Questions?

I think it would be just as ugly as a concept sketch I saw of the original enterprise that was flipped upside down and given longer nacelles.

Aside from the fact that it's not in any way an original idea at all? I mean, a Galaxy class vessel flipped upside down and given longer nacelles is just...a Galaxy class vessel flipped upside down and given longer nacelles. What's the point?

the point is to make something different yet kinda the same.... maybe to make it more advanced??? like maybe put additional sensor pallets on the star drive section like on nebula class vessels? i also thought that you never see a vessel with the deflector dish above the saucer section..... btw did mirinda class vessels have deflector dishes??

Ooooooooooooooo.... Now that's how the GALAXY class should have been!! I like the frontier class now!!! Very functional....

I like this question, i design my own starships at home. split dorsal ventral views with all the detail associated and accompany that with a hand drawn MSD display complete with doors inside the turbolift shaft.

I don't like the upside down galaxy idea. It's not original. And personally I liked the galaxy class alot, it was very regal and majestic in my eyes, like the king riding his army into battle in his golden armor, on his majestic white horse, with french horns in the background.

If you want the galaxy route of a new ship i suggest you have an oval saucer, long end pointed foward IE sovereign, then have a sovereign esk secondary hull (albiet looking not exactly like a Sovereign.), but instead of making the aft dorsal hull spine so shallow in terms of slope, pull it downwads like the Galaxy class aft hull spine, then stretch it out aftwards like the Galaxy class. There wouldn't be a distinct neck and secondary hull design, it would be all incorporated together thus giving it that Galaxy class feel with a more modern sovereign element. Then, throw on a couple of dramatic aft sweeping warp pylons like the Sovereign and a couple of nacelles that remenisce of the TMP refit Constitution, but obviously more modern.

BAM you've got your new ship.

hmmmmm..... kinda hard to visualize that....

could you sketch this design out maybe??? i would be very interested to see it on paper.....

Well i don't really have a scanner or any way to put it online really.

Just visualize a saucer like the Sovereign, and a secondary hull like the galaxy, ONLY the secondary hull is not a neck attached to a "diamondesque" shaped secondary hull. It's as if someone grabbed the VERY bottom of the secondary hull of the Enterprise E and pulled it down, creating a steeper slop on the back neck, ala the slope of the back neck of a galaxy where shuttle bays 2 and 3 are, then stretching out the back to a more shallow slope, like the area where the deuterium tankage is on the Enterprise-D, and eventually the more flat part where the E-D aft launcher is. the back part of the ship would look a little like a reverse "L", or if you're looking at a side schematic of a Galaxy class but without the clear distinction of a neck/secondary hull. It's actually just one contained hull without a neck.

That way you get a modern sovereignesque ship with the older regal feel of a galaxy class.

if i was to do a galaxy design then this would be what i's do

Galactic Squirrel: Yeah, I love your Entente-Class / Nebula-Class hybrid, but you have-to raise the sensor/tactical pod up a few fractions of an inch to keep from blowing-off the bridge module from behind.
