Maybe we shouldn't close Gitmo so quickly

For those of you who are so preachy, President Obama has to figure out WHERE to put imprisoned t error suspects. Period. He is merely closing the facility at Gitmo. Do some checking and you'll see that interrogation tactics aren't changing *much*, and the procedures for forced feeding and solitary confinement remain intact.

In fact, if you did some reading, almost all of President Bushes policies are going to remain in force.

Also note that John McCain stated he was going to close Gitmo as well.

Yeah, and I already said that force feeding prisoners who try to starve themselves and solitary confinement are standard practice at ALL prisons. Nobody considers either of these to be torture.

No need to "do some checking", everybody already knows that. In fact everybody already knows and accepts every part of what you keep insisting they don't.

Nice red herring, completely meaningless though.

Nope, not a red herring, and in TNZ someone pointed out that forced feeding is considered cruel punishment in England.

We all know this. Why do you keep posting it? It's like when you keep posting how we all say will Obama will cure all the world's ills in a day except it's only you who is saying that.

The point of closing the detention center has to do with its history and the way that the world looks at us.

You're right about the hunger striking actually, inmates have been allowed to die where they cannot be shown to be incapable of informed consent in the UK.

Statement retracted, apology issued where it not being considered a form of torture is concerned.

Although American jails have force fed inmates who are sound of mind with supreme court consent on a number of occasions and solitary confinement is nothing out of the ordinary so I am still calling your posts a red herring. You KNOW why people want the facility closed.

It may be good not to take everything quite literally. Gitmo is as much a symbol of Bush stupidity and bad American leadership as anything else. So ordering it closed in his first week was damage control and a strong signal to the world. None of that has a lot to do with reality, in the facility today. But because of the panties, the waterboarding, the secret prisons, the lack of charges, beating prisoners to death, the human pyramids, etc. etc., it has to go. It's a symbol of everything that went wrong under Bush.

Not to those that understand it's part in Bush's plan on keeping us safe the last 7 1/2 years.

He kept us safe. Unless you were in the military because then you're really fucked. The terrorists didn't even have to go to America to kill Americans. So, yeah, Bush kept America safe by making sure the Americans died in other countries and no in America itself.

Bush did not keep us safe, that's absurd. 4000 American soldiers died in Iraq for nothing. That's not even counting the amount of Iraqis that died. No, Bush sacrificed this country just so we could all feel a little better about ourselves and feel a false feeling of safety.

You've been a Bush apologist for a while, haven't you? Any and all incompetence is "keeping us safe".

No. I'm not afraid to speak up when I think he's made mistakes - which are many. But keeping us safe was not one of them.

Hopefully you'll be able to say the same some day.

You're a dying breed.

 Whatever makes you feel better.

Dude, you pull this in every thread. Once you can't think of a rebutal you suddenly claim that you're tired of debating or that people are flaming you and then you leave and don't return. Or, as you did here, you just ignore things that you can't argue with. So it really didn't bother me to begin with. I could very easily point out the hypocrisy of being a die hard Christian but being fine with torture but I honestly don't think you'd debate me on that; you'd just post something evasive and ignore everything else.

Leaving a thread is better than continuing to beat that dead horse over an over. There comes a point where there's never going to be any common ground during a discussion.

More times than not it degrades into someone making attacks on the poster instead of the point. That's when you know the liberal has lost. See ya.

alright sidious618, it is true, if you go back and read it, he already responded to you.

I do not think those Americans died for nothing. If you asked them (before they died, obviously) almost all if not all of them would have agreed.
