I fear Olivia might be depressed

Keeping her head to one side is a classic sign of ear infection. I went through the same thing with my nephew. Take her to a pediatrician NOW and don't ask for advice here.

I concur seeing as how I had a nasty ear infection back when I was young as well. Overall, I suggest you let the doc have a look before you start pulling your own diagnoses out of thin air.

Most times doctors will put children on pills. Not because the child needs it but because it makes the parent feel better about their child. There is no depression type pills that a child of less that 14-15 years of age needs to be on. 95% of the time its just kids being kids and parents in this day and age going all wacked out thinking, "My kid isnt normal...shove some pills down her throat so I can feel better about myself and my kid."
Thats my opinion...

I used to get LOADS of ear infections, and I have had tinnitus as long as I can remember--I believe it's damage from the numerous infections.

Don't sit on something like that--you definitely want that checked to avoid future damage, especially if she turns out (as I was) to being very prone to repeated infections.

Just don't want her to turn into a basket head-case like daddy, y'know?

Is she maybe sick with something?

I don't think so. The head-cock is persistent so I think she might have an ear infection or something for which she's trying to drain.

an ear infection is being sick.
they can either be minor in children or they can turn nasty and cause long term problems.

also her head being like that could be a sign of hearing issues.

she should be seen by a doctor .

I want to catch depression and whatever else I have early in Olivia so she's not like me when she grows up and if that means I have to keep her away from Star Trek, so be it per the reasons I've listed.

You think watching and enjoying Star Trek explains everything that's wrong with you and is the root of it all?

don't read too much into it. Star Trek for me at least was a big hindrance to me making friends in school but I didn't care. It was my escape and my playland.

Star Trek may have been the thing you escaped to due to your already preexisting problems with making friends in school, but it's ludicrous to think that it actually caused those problems or that watching it would somehow harm your daughter's social development. Doing anything to excess or cutting yourself off from social interaction can be harmful, but you don't seriously believe that the television show itself caused that situation, right? Watching the show instead of socializing was a symptom of the illness, not the illness itself.

As far as your daughter's situation goes, I agree with the others that an ear infection seems the most likely cause, though other (correctable) issues could also be responsible (like one eye being less developed than the other), which is why you should be seeing a doctor instead of asking about this on TrekBBS.

Please don't assume things like depression and start looking to get her medicated in anticipation of potential future issues just because you have them. That's liable to cause problems itself. I'm not saying it's impossible for her to have these issues, just don't jump to conclusions and assume it's inevitable just because she's your daughter.

she's not running a temperature or exhibiting any cold-like signs indicative of an ear infection. I'll have her checked out anyway. Hope they're open on Sunday.

Not every child has every symptom of a disease. My DD has had strep a number of times and almost never had a fever. Bring her to the dr and have her checked.

It would serve you well to keep a list of area Urgent Care facilities and E/Rs for just such a situation.

I never had the "typical" or "classic" signs of a ear infection-- and I got them at a drop of a hat-- growing up. To many of them went untreated, and now I'm paying for it with hearing problems.

The rule of thumb of my son's doc use is: Anytime the child acts outside their normal routine for more than a couple of hours, get them checked. Especially if they're to little to let you know verbally that there is something wrong with them or tell you spefically where it's hurting.

She's good. Ears are clean, weight's good, blood gas is good, tooth is popping through which is probably the problem.

I'll be hiring a tutor for her this spring into the summer (out of pocket). Can't wait :D

Last I heard she was under two

A tutor...are you serious? YOU are your child's tutor for the first 5 years. YOU. (the collective YOU as in, your wife and you).

All a child needs to learn in the first 5 years should come from the parents.

Well, I was in preschool when I was 3 and 4; I turned out fine. But at 2, I don't really see the need for a tutor.

Yeah, little miss trampledamage is in pre-school and she's just turned four - but that's for the socialising and getting used to school routine rather than academics (and to have someone else come up with the craft ideas!).
