Movie toy images galore at WizardUniverse.com

Technically, that's not true anymore. DST/AA products are now showing up at Toys R Us.

They are now, yes, but it seems to be in rather limited numbers. (I got a phaser the other day.) They had six to eight pegs, I think. They also got Enterprise product into TRU, and Borg figures and the original Minimates into Target years ago, but that stuff didn't sell so hot. I think they've been taking baby steps as a toy company to recover from that. (As a design house, they're stuff is as good as ever and in some cases better.) But I don't think the could get six feet of shelving at TRU the way Hasbro can with Star Wars, Clone Wars, and Indiana Jones (even if the Jones toys were a flop).

They don't make action figures to appeal to a collectors' market. They make action figures to be played with by young people, so they're going to made differently. These weren't going to be masterpieces, by any means.

Exactly so.

And I think the Enterprise looks excellent. I've been fond of this redesign from the start, and seeing that replica sealed the deal.

Same here.

Now that I'm see so much stuff from the movie I'm thinking that I'd have really liked an even greater break from established Trek design - start out, say, by McQuarrie-izing the Enterprise - but given how closely they've chosen to mimic TOS, the filmmakers have done a great job.

If I had kids...I still would'nt buy these toys to be broken by them. Waste of money, Dora the Explorer and Action Man is more functional for them.

As an adult, I feel no need for these...

Do they expect to make any money off these to children, or just the much-too-die-hard fan adults?

PS - The mistake with mimicking the TOS series closely was with the uniforms. I believe the uniforms still looking like the original, just a tiny bit shinier, will make casual viewers of the trailers think "cheesy" and back way off, hence pushing away some of the people they were trying to grab.

Pleasing outside audiences is ---MORE--- important than pleasing the current trek fanbase in my opinion. If voyager was any example, and enterprise, no matter how bad things get the die-hard trek fans will always stick and see any new movie based on a slim hope it would be half ok.

Re: Star Trek Toy pics leaked

Jumped the gun, perhaps. Showed what they weren't supposed to be showing yet.

Re: Star Trek Toy pics leaked

Yessss. And I saved them. So, if you ever need a picture of the Phaser, Tricorder or Narada, I got one.

Re: Star Trek Toy pics leaked

You are right. There are too many toy threads. What we need are several more threads discussing the trailer, and a few discussing how Zachary Quinto doesn't look exactly like Leonard Nimoy.

I think we should start a thread discussing the threads. Then three more threads discussing that thread, and if the moderators should care or not.

Discuss.

Re: Star Trek Toy pics leaked

I think we should merge this with the thread about toys at Wizard Universe. Hang on...

Then numerous parody threads of those threads. And at last, all threads will be merged into one, giant, nonsensical thread which will be too hard to follow, and yet create peace and order in the Universe. It will be a work of art, not unlike the Playmates tricorder which I have on preorder.

Re: Star Trek Toy pics leaked

And then that thread shall be pinned, and the unwashed n00bs shalt not read it, necessitating regular thread merges on the part of M'Sharak. And it was good.

It's just a jump to the left.....

Ok, now we have official images of the toys. And in Hi-Res too.

TrekMovie article :techman:

Oh, and the images that were taken down from WizardUniverse were mostly prototypes, so don't see those as the final products.
