First pic of *edit* full-sized toy props....

If that's the case, then clearly "Star Trek" needed a little "Galaxy Quest."

So very much agreed.

Trek needed a hypo in the form of a GQ injection.
I've said it many times, Galaxy Quest was the best Trek
in a decade. I hold high hope the Abrams liked it as much
as he claims, and thought of it plenty while making his film.

:)

I don't think Abrams would ruin Trek like that. Trek has been the same way for 40 years. Do you expect me to believe Abrams would just go off half cocked and make a Galaxy quest-ish movie? Because he wouldn't. He can't. Unless he wants to piss of a lot of people. Including me.

It would be a very small group of people getting pissed off, not enough
to worry about in the slightest.

Galaxy Quest carried the themes and ideas and most of all fun of Star Trek
better than any Trek movie or series has for more than a decade.

It wouldn't be ruining Trek, it would be bringing it more in line with what
it always should have remained. The biggest thing Star Trek lost was it's
sense of humor and adventure. Both things Galaxy Quest had in abundance
along with all the nerdisms and great "Human moments" of the characters.

Galaxy Quest was like the lost episode of Star Trek, had it carried the
franchise name it would be the best of it yet.

Bring on Abrams Galaxy Trek!

No. I did not like the look of the supposed "Enterprise" In that movie. It pissed me off that they would try and make a parody of trek.

And that is what they were doing, parodying trek. Do you want that?

Dennis is a kid at heart, and as such is often a lot less jaded and fucked up than the rest of us.

Maybe.. but, I'll be honest. I can't take his opinion seriously anymore. He honestly sounds like a complete shill at this point. Maybe that's unfair of me, but this level of 'everything about this movie is good' is just getting absurd.

That and his self-righteous condescenscion towards anyone who doesn't agree that he is always right.

I'll be honest..you're getting to where I've been regarding you for ages. It's not that you sound like a shill; it's just the quality of your work and your thinking as expressed here.

That is entirely uncalled for, Dennis...Vance does GREAT Trek art, easily as good in his chosen medium as you are in yours.

This last year or two you've become increasingly hostile towards others...what the heck happened to you?

Actually. if a parody is done out of fondness, as Galaxy Quest was, I for one do want it. I doubt that this is going to be parodical, at least on the level that Galaxy Quest was, but if there are a few humourous references, I personally would rather enjoy it. A number of the people involved with Galaxy Quest, by the way, were Star Trek fans themselves, so I doubt they would go out of their way to insult themselves or Star Trek, and I VERY much doubt that Paramount and J.J. Abrams would spend a hundred and fifty million plus dollars making some elaborate parody.

Elaborite or not. I just don't want stuff to resemble things from Galaxy Quest. I liked Galaxy Quest...Oh, I get it.

Bring on the Galaxy Quest!

So was this:

That and his self-righteous condescenscion towards anyone who doesn't agree that he is always right.

So were Vance's swipes about shark-jumping and shilling. If anyone has got anything further to cover on those subjects, please take it to PM, and let's get back to talking about the actual topic of toy props.

Exactly.

Plus, because of the nature of the story they could break Trek's peculiar version of the fourth wall and involve the "Galaxy Quest" fans in the adventure. If you mention "Star Trek" to almost anyone who's not deeply into it, one of the first things they'll think of is "the trekkies." The fact that Trek has this particular, devoted and downright peculiar following is one of the things that make it unique. Being able to have "trekkies" in a "Trek" movie just had a feeling of having found the mssing piece about it.

Which would, of course, be completely inappropriate in a real Trek film - more's the pity. But we'll always have "Galaxy Quest." ;)

In my nobody-cares-humble-opinion...

These things are going to be sitting on the store shelves waaayyy beyond next Christmas. (unless by August they get marked down.... a lot!)

Star Trek was never seriously meant to be kids fare.

Oh, on many an occasion it lowered itself to that level, but truly, only geeky kids like myself (and those that post with me around here;)) ever really liked it.

What the current production crew is hoping for isn't going to happen...

Unlike TRIX, Trek Is Not For Kids.
And if that's what they've turned trek into, that's just sad.

I've been wrong before with my opinions about stuff around here, but I just don't see this movie doing anything but driving away a large majority of Fans who have kept Trek alive all these years.
(Despite the Everything-Is-Wonderful droning of a few posters around here.)

Any new folks that come on board are going to be a small minority compared to those that will be disheartened and disenfranchised.

It may be an entertaining movie, but it isn't gonna create this huge groundswell of new Trek Fans.
And So I Will DRONE.... They've Changed WAY TOO MUCH!!

Star Trek was never seriously meant to be kids fare.

But its marketing for Trek toys certainly is. How old were some of you when you got your Mego Bridge Action Playset??

The nerchandise for Trek has always been aimed at that age group. These are the people who generally go out and buy this stuff, always have been.

All the other movies and series had a set of toys and action figures aimed at this age group. This has never had anything to do with the maturity content of the films or series thus far. I don't think Trek XI is going to be any exception.

We're not talking about Ewoks here.

So it only on "many an occasion" looked, acted and was marketed like kid's fare? You know what they say about the duck...
