How many 2009 babies will be named Barack?

Yeah. It's still a pretty unusual name. There might be a slight uptick in the instances but it won't be up there with Chris or Michael.

I gotta admit, it would be odd to see blond-haired blue-eyed kids running around with the name Barack.

^ Well, out in the West anyways.

Oh god *foot in mouth* I meant in a 'copying the celebrity name kind of way' not of course in a traditional name way. I'm shutting up now - hole way too big already...

Surely there has to be a website somewhere that charts the popularity of "celebrity" names for babies and correlates it with the big blockbuster hit of that year. How many kids were called Keanu (and there was at least one in the UK) or Leo/Kate or whatever?

Are we talking about just the USA, or are we counting the entire world? Because you could probably get something like 100,000 just in Kenya alone.

*sneaks back in* Why did you make me google that!
I got distracted and found out that my name means 'of noble birth' in German! And my boyfriend is a cliff dweller, could be worse I s'pose could have been a cave dweller:lol:. Meaning of Barack cannot be found, he is truely an enigma!
I vote for bringing Tarzan back as a name:techman:

It only tracks the top 1,000 names for each year, though. 'Barak' has not cracked that number yet, so it doesn't appear!

I don't think there will be many Baracks, but "Barry" will probably go up a little. It dropped off their charts in 1995. It may break the top 1,000 agin in the next 4 years.

Back in the late 80s there was apparently a fad for calling the kids Kylie and Jason...

Today, they're often called things like Stella, Courvoisier, or Tennant's Special... :guffaw:

Only fourteen babies born in the U.S. have been registered with names other than "Barack" since November. And six of those were girls.
