Star Trek comics preview released

OK, so I have the comic right here with me.
I'll be reading it shortly, I thought I'd give you a couple of previews from it first ( I hope it's allowed ).

The writers and production team have stated the the comic prequel is the back story to the movie.

So..............that would lead me think that the comic is at the very least strongly heading into canon territory.

The first third of Vonda McIntyre's chunky ST III adaptation is all prequel to that movie. But the old Star Trek Office often stated that tie-in prequels (and novelizations) are not canonical.

True. Though take into account that this is a totally new team, and with the strong possibility that past thinking/guidelines could be thrown out the window. This new movie is meant to be a fresh start for Trek.

*Though there has even been cases of on camera canon conflict/errors in the past as well.

This looks interesting. However, since this has been a discussion of the preview, and since blaXXer has just started a Countdown review thread over here, let's make that one the review thread for the issue proper. We can continue in that one with the subsequent issues or start new ones for each issue, as seems appropriate.

I will copy your post (including images) over to that thread, as well.

No problem. I just thought we should keep all of the review discussion in one place, rather than spreading it out over several threads.
