Susan Foreman is returning! - Big Finish

Worf2DS9

Check it out, looks like it could be a good one!

An Earthly Child

Forty-five years after she left Doctor Who, Carole Ann Ford is returning to the role of the Susan Foreman in An Earthly Child. This special hour-long audio play from Big Finish Productions finds the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) visiting the planet Earth in the 22nd Century to check the progress of the grand-daughter he left behind. Things have moved on since he was last there: Susan has become a key player in rebuilding the remnants of a world decimated by a Dalek invasion, and she has a son from her marriage to David. And Alex Campbell, the Doctor's great-grandson, is played by Jake McGann, the son of Paul...

It would be more exciting if she hadn't already played the alternate Susan in the Unbound audios, and the casting of Jake McGann is obnoxiously cute, but Marc Platt is capable of some pretty strong writing, so I remain hopeful.

Awesome!! Let's face it, the show was never going to touch her again. So, I love they're using McGann as the Doctor to go back to her. I'll be picking this one up, for certain... :techman:

In the same way it was never going to touch Sarah Jane, Davros or The Master?

Actually if I recall correctly from Father's Day, the 9th Doctor said he wasn't sure if he was still a father/grandfather.

Is it likely that Susan would have been caught up in the Timewar or would she have been safe on 22nd century earth? What if the Doctor didn't know, but was too scared of finding out to go look?

You don't recall correctly. The series has been very clear in arguing that there are no Time Lords that survived the Time War save the Doctor and the Master (and now Jenny).

See orginally the series argued that no Timelord had survived the Time War other than the Doctor, this perceptuion has now changed, and who is to say it won't/can't change again?

This is also the series that has argued all the Daleks in the universe have been destroyed...ooh about 3 times now!)

Yeah, but that's not really comparable, is it? I mean, Sarah-Jane, Davros, and The Master are all from relatively "modern" eras of Classic Who. What are the odds that they would have brought back a character from its first two years?

Would I love for her to come back to the show (to regenerate)? Absolutely. But, with their half-assed attempt to say The Doctor is the "Last" of the Time Lords (save the really popular ones they want to bring back), to bring back a family member might be too much happiness for the modern sad-faced Doctor... ;)

Sure, it's possible. (It'd be bloody lame, but it's possible.) I'm just saying that you remember "Father's Day" incorrectly. ;)

I’m sick of your attitude, Sci, I recall Father’s Day perfectly, and the 10th Doctor specifically told Martha that he was a granddad. This was just before the Daleks invaded the church and Captain Jack flirted with the Queen of the Racnoss!

Maybe in the context of this story the Time War hasn't happened yet? It is the Eigth Doctor that's going to go visit her, not the Ninth or the Tenth.

The Doctor Who: The Forgotten comic mini-series mentioned her. He said that he doesn't know for sure that she died, but he assumed that she did.

I imagine that he really doesn't want to know for sure.

A one hour freebee cobbled on to the rear end of an actual sale?

I was wondering what Paul's dealy was? How does his Lucy adventures connect with his Charlie adventures? Do they connect? Is this preCharlie or post Charlie?

Honestly, after 20 years Susan might look like she's a couple weeks older than when we last saw her, so really, how is her marriage going to function if her husband looks more and more like her father and then her grandfather and a pedophile everyday... And really, even with the kid being half human, exactly hoe slowly will he be maturating and how long would the gestation period be? Considering the necessary over development of a timelords brain I could see a pregnancy lasting more than 5 years at least.

Going to be weird.

Then of course would binary unions even be legal if who ever is in charge wants to anticipate a functional gene pool that's not going to spit out nothing but inbred genetically retarded and deformed "people" by the gram and bushel a few years down the track? Then of course that could all be handled with cloning and mass factory conceptions after every one donates genetic samples continuously... Which Susan would have to duck out of for obvious reasons... If she can.

The Lucie adventures come after the Charley ones. There's a couple hints here and there. Of course, we have no idea how this one connects-- it doesn't come out for another year!

Susan seemed to be aging at a normal human rate in The Five Doctors. It'll be interesting to see how she's depicted on the cover.

Well, most definitely, since every Big Finish story is set before the time war.

(nobody mention companion chronicles - just shut up and don't overcomplicate things, ffs)

I was wondering for a time if it would be Lucy or Charlie who would be the companion during the Time War... Charlie is out of the picture... But tapping Susan right now would make the time war an interesting place to take note of if she's in the thick of it for the final stand before everything burns.

Although looking at the companions they have set up for 8 in July... Benny, Fitz, Izzy and Mary "freaking: I wrote Frankenstein" Shelly... You have to wonder what direction they are planning to go with Paul that they're tapping a book character, a comic book character and an anecdote.

I like to think it's Lucy. Thing is, Big Finish probably won't ever be allowed to go near the time war, such is their license agreement.

That's literally spelled out? Since if you got lawyerish, the timewar is something that happened to the 8th doctor, so it is the TV people who are stepping on Big Finishes toes, expecially if Moffet is planning on making another Paul McGahn movie at some point, which no one has said that he is.

We don't know that. It has never been revealed which incarnation fought the time war. All we know is that the Ninth Doctor hadn't glanced in a mirror since he regenerated. That's it.

The Time War is a major plot point of the new television series and therefore it is out of bounds as far as BF are concerned.

It's "the TV people" who own the license. That includes the 8th Doctor. The Beeb can do a time war miniseries with McGann if they want and they certainly do NOT need to ask Big Finish's permission.

And will you please stop spelling Paul McGann's name wrong. :scream:
