Refit Impulse Pattern

I'm all for discussing the intricacies of starship design but wow...I think this is the most trivial detail I've ever seen anybody get so heated about.

Unfortunately, I've been trying to prove a point to a friend, who has been helping me on a project, and I wanted to get a concerted answer, straight from the fans. However, I didn't make it that far without getting into a controversy.

Such is life.

SphinxR, three things to say:

1. Welcome to the board! Always good to have another eager participant.
2. Try to keep sequential posts to a minimum, 3 at most. This also applies to responding to multiple posts - the new software has a "multi-quote" feature that is tailor-made for this.
3. Please keep any personal issues that come from other boards off of this board - the TrekBBS is not 'neutral ground' for off-board conflicts.

And again, welcome to the TrekBBS :bolian:.

Agreed, especially since there's really nothing new about the topic and it's not like this is a major discovery. Also - I'm not too sure about the legality of emblazoning copyright info over simple screen caps of property which is clearly Paramount's. In any case...

This pic at Cloudster should answer the question definitively:

There are others on this site but this is one of the best. You can also look at the myriad fan-made photos taken of the miniature during the Christie's auction.

What I want to know is who got the refit model? I've always wanted to see it but now might never get the chance.

SphinxR,

You're correct that there is a region of the "Grill" which is different in appearance... specifically a subregion which appears brighter. Whether this is due to (1) an internal "light box," (2) a partial "smoked glass" effect behind the pane, or (2) a difference in the line pattern... that's uncertain.

However... the "real issue" isn't "what did they do on the model" (after all, we don't believe that the "real" 1701 had huge flourescent tubes inside, do we???). The real issue is "what were they trying to fool our eyes into thinking that they were looking at?"

I think that the INTENT was to make it look like there's a "nozzle" internal to that, and that the grill is simply across the back of a somewhat rhomboid nozzle region on either side.

The only alternative argument I've heard is that these were some sort of "thrust-vectoring vanes."

You're free to choose which you want to believe in. I chose the first, you seem to prefer the second. Since the ship doesn't actually exist, it's not like either of us is actually "correct," is it?
I've seen several discussions about the pattern for the impulse grill on the Refit and thought I would try to bring my contribution. I've looked at all
of the movies through the various incarnations and have taken a great many screen captures and I've found that there is indeed a pattern. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the screens pretty much seem to show to me that there is a pattern.

I think I speak with authority when I say... "I see a pattern forming."

UR thoughts?

I think it was supposed to look like a nozzle.

If you look at them they're about the same size as the exhaust ports on the non-refit Enterprise

Amazing that you're so worried about copyright, considering that virtually everything that is done and "copyrighted" by the fans is indeed an infringement. Unfortunately SphinxR could not reply, nor could Captain James B. Quirk, nor Mysterious Stranger, nor CJTK1701. The same person keeps getting banned every time he tries to reply, or come back and get a second chance. It's truly unfortunate that there are so many people that get second chances and yet Captain Quirk is not given that opportunity.

It's amazing how everyone within the Trek Community talks about "Tolerance" but how few are actually willing to tolerate anything but thier own oppinion. It just keeps happening all of the time! Amazing!

KTM had tried several times to give everything he could to the "Trek" community, but always seems to run into the same, entrenched group of haters and bashers and ne'er do wells and they always try to put it off on me. (KTM)

Yeah, it's me. Get over it and yeah, I'll be back. Get a grip folks. Don't believe the hype and don't buy into everything you read on the net.

Think for yourself!

Keep on Trekkin! And don't forget! I WILL be back! LOL ROTFLMAO!:rommie:

Is this...relevant?

Of course it's relevant. It's totally relevant to the issue of artwork and tolerance and the very utopian ideal of all Star Trek fans every where.

It's also relevant to life itself. You can't preach tolerance and give none!

You can't pretend to have an open forum and ban the same person dozen of times, without even giving a reason, or without giving the man a chance to redeem himself. Of course it's relevant!

If I were allowed to post for more than a few posts I could show everythingI've tried to contribute to the "Trek" community for over nine years. The unfortunate part is that I keep getting banned due to a total
lack of tolerance, or forgiveness on the part of some within the community.

Of course it's relevant.

I've donated my time to several different forums and offered my artwork up for free, for anyone to use it for years. I've sold my artwork to give the money to Hurricane Katrina victims and had my auctions shut down, because of haters crying to e-bay that they were illigitimate, even though I had the paperwork from the Red Cross.

I've offered any help I could to anyone that asked and gave modeling advice and helped any number of people, but I keep getting banned because of small minded people thatstart letter writing campaigns without even knowing the person that they are writing about.

Of course it's relevant! It shows how a few people with nothing better to do and no real life, of thier own, can trash those that try to contribute, because of thier own prejudices and unreasonable hatereds of people they don't know.

It's indicitive of the very problem within the Trek community and within the "Net" as a whole! Yes, it's very relevant.

Look at the recent Net laws and articles on net bullies and you can see that it is indeed relevant.

No, it's not relevant.

Yes, it is. It's very relevant! Maybe if you and the staff had a little tolerance, you might find out that if you give someone a second chance, they just might not let you down!

It's just as relevant as the blueprints and references to the TOS and the Refit and the Enterprise-E that I TRIED to give to the community!

I'd suggest starting a different thread on the issue, or, better, PMing the parties in question, not derailing this thread with the topic.

Since this is nothing but a soapbox now, it's closed. Do not restart this topic, or further warnings will ensue.
