Meet Eli Wallace: The Slacker With A Heart of Gold

InvisibleGT

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
According to "The Ausiello Files," David Blue has been tapped to play Eli Wallace.

This certainly puts the kibosh on a possible Marc-Cliff reunion on Ugly Betty: Cliff's portrayer, David Blue, is relocating to another freakin' universe.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Blue has been tapped to join the cast of Sci Fi Channel's Stargate Universe, the franchise's third (and purportedly edgiest) live-action series.

Blue, who joins previously announced headliner Robert Carlyle, plays Eli Wallace, a total slacker who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to -- mathematics, computers, video games. A lack confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor.

Universe follows a group of soldiers, scientists, and civilians who have been stranded on an ancient ship in the far reaches of space. It's slated to debut on Sci Fi next fall.

I'm sad for Marc and Cliff, but I'm ecstatic for David, a genuinely decent guy who displayed real star potential on Betty.

I thought it was Eli Hitchcock?

I always thought the SG producers were terrible at names "Jared Nash" "Chloe Carpenter" "Everett Young", but that really took it to new levels.

So I'll be pleased if his name is changing to Eli Wallace

The character sounds like he's going to be a different type of McKay. But still whiney, annoying, arrogant. Greeeeat.

Isn't he Mark's boyfriend from Ugly Betty? Not that I errr... watch Ugly Betty, of course......

Meet Col. Young and Sgt Greer.

Louis (Hidden Hills) will play Colonel Everett Young, an experienced and married Stargate team leader, while Smith (Hey, Arnold!) will portray Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, a Marine with an explosive temper...and a mysterious past to account for it.

A black guy! Who's not an alien! How long until he's killed off?

I think you really are taking ethnicity in tv shows far too seriously.

I've always thought too Stargate has failed somewhat ethnicity wise in it's presentation of the military. The Air Force is somewhere around 15-20% African-American, other branches are higher and Hispanics are a larger part of our military and have been increasing for years. I think the presentation we see from Stargate is something like 95%+ white guys.

I wonder if Sgt Greer is related to James Greer

*hoping somebody gets the Tom Clancy reference*

You're right. I'll bury my head in the sand and pretend that the world accepts all kinds from all walks of life and it's just coincedence and colorblindness that whites are still getting all the leads on TV despite the fact that there has historically been a problem with Euro-centric discrimination all over the westernized world. Then I'll pretend that it doesn't matter that the token black person on Stargate is once again the big, gruff warrior, hulk-smash and not the slacker, or the hero or the hot chick. It's not at all because of the latent fear of blacks that have dominated in society. Right? Doesn't matter? Irrelevent? Just a TV show?

It always matters! ;)

Half the main foursome on SGA is black, including Ford who came before Ronan.

But anyway, nope, you're seeing discrimination where there is none, so I really can't take you seriously, particularly with that avatar that seems to indicate you are indeed obsessed with ethnicity on tv. I think it's a non-issue. Let's move on

Ford's actor is Plains Cree, actually - and Jason Momoa is half-Native Hawaiian.

And to be honest, one thing I like about Atlantis at least is that it actually has actors from other countries and/or backgrounds in it - including among what might be banded together under the 'white' heading - as seen with Paul McGillion and David Nykl (who actually gets to speak Czech on the show!).

Indeed, Rachel Luttrell was born in Tanzania, which happens to be right next door to...

When it comes to that kind of diversity, it's better than many series out there.

A black guy with an explosive temper! It's heart-warming to know that cultural stereotypes are always free to be broken down on Stargate. :)

:p

In all seriousness, I'm unaware of all of these actors, save for Carlyle. We'll see how it all turns out in a few months (in more than a few months for me--I'll probably catch it on DVD only).

My avatar?! :rommie: Now you're being ridiculous. I chose that and my screen name because the character on Futurama is awesome! Not because of his skin color. Pointing out a problem in our culture isn't "obsessing" but there is something to be said about using extreme words to paint someone in a negative light when you don't like what they say.

It's obvious you don't have the chops to have an adult discussion about these issues. Why comment in the first place if you can't talk about it?

That name has been changed too. "Jared Nash" is now "Matthew Scott", and he's been cast.

Oh now he is pretty.

I can't wait until they cast the ladies. Jon seems like an interesting character. Cool avatar, BTW. Vampires that shimmer in the sun?!

They're going to have girls in this? Ah, man! I thought it was going to be like a gay Lord of the Flies in space! :(

And yes ... It's my anti-Twatlight avatar. And pro-True Blood. :D

.
Ditto. Would the Earth have stopped spinning if the actor had been cast as the genius scientist? Or Rush? Geez, I want the show-and all shows and movies to stop the stereotypical casting. Teal'c smash! Ronon grunt! Greer growl!

Jaffa kree....:scream:
