I just realized something; Korax might have been giving Kirk a back-handed compliment by comparing him to a Regulan blood worm, considering how vicious the little critters are. Makes one wonder what a Denebian slime devil looks like.

Hmmmm. I feel a sequel coming on.

An interesting discussion, thank you all.

....yada, yada, yada...

Some people have assumed that we had an agenda in making this episode. They’re right, we did. But it’s not the agenda people have presumed.

Our agenda was to have you stop and consider a possibility — just consider it — for only four minutes, that’s all — that gay people are human beings too, loved by God, equal in the eyes of God, cherished by God, and given the same gifts from God as you — the ability to love and connect to another human being.

David Gerrold

I hope you didn't misunderstand me. I said the 4 minute scene makes the (half-)episode look like there was an agenda. I understand it's part of the bigger picture of this story.

I guess there is probably uneasiness produced because some people watch(ed) Trek with their families, including younger children. I may have had a little problem with the (prolonged) scene if it were heterosexual if watching it with my kids.

Now here's your catch-22. I think the scene was too long especially for what are now glorified NDs. Had a main cast member been one of the couple, fine. BUT I don't think anyone is going to write one of the Big 7 as all of a sudden being homosexual (except for the slash writers). But like you asked, I will wait for Pt II to see...

Happy New Year

I have to say, after finally watching this online a few days ago, I really enjoyed part 1. It was due to have a continued episode and well this was a great way to do it. Everything was running along smoothly and then you have the ending where the mission team is trapped. Can't wait to see who gets out alive and who will die.
Too bad Nick's character died. Didn't McCoy say that targets aren't painted on redshirts anymore? LOL. I had to laugh at that one for sure.

Is Alex Freeman some sort of empath or telepath? Maybe it is just the actor, but he has those incredibly dark brown eyes, which reminds me of the Betazed. Also in the cabin scene with Peter there is a moment when he looks down and away, then interestingly sort of stares off into the distance, right before relaxing and Peter responds, "I got it." At first I just thought it was awkward acting, and excessively long pauses between dialog, but when I rewatched it, it definitely made me think about the scene in a different way.

I realize that most people have an earthbound perspective (that's why the Enterprise orbits planets with it's starboard side down to preserve the appearance of up and down),
Actually I can think of a number of times that the Enterprise D and Voyager went into orbit "under" planets, ie upside down... But I suppose the fact that I even think of that as being "under" the planet just supports your point even further. :techman:

Wouldn't that be kind of like saying that a prodigiously productive or sociable person reminds you of HIV? Still not much of a compliment :)

But if you're going to start messing with the content, well, I think that's about like going to an art gallery and drawing mustaches on the paintings.

What about an art gallery that gives away free souvenir prints of their favorite works, and when you get home you draw silly mustaches on your own copy? I think that's more like what's happening here.

I agree, but what if you draw the silly mustaches on the paintings and hand them out without telling anyone that the silly mustaches were added on by you? ...

The same answer applies to both.

In many cases the copyrights to the artwork in a museum have
expired.

If not, the artist can sell his copyrights to the museum. In most
cases where copyright has not expired I would guess, and it is only
a guess, that the artists have licensed the museum to make and
distribute the copies.

It is unlikely they have done the same to the mustache drawers.

Well, I did say a "back-handed compliment."

I really wasn't trying to make a legal argument. To me it was just a question of simple propriety and ethics.

I understand. Though of course I am not in a position to give actual
legal advice I was hoping that a serious answer to your rhetorical
question would convey that this an instance in which the law supports
what you and I would agree to be the ethically proper approach.

Imagine that!

This is Phase II's new Sulu with porn actor Brent Corrigan :D

For a guy who makes his living with his clothes off, Corrigan could stand to hit the gym. Of course, if keeping themselves in working condition involved more effort than purging and going under the knife I suppose not all that many female porn stars would have much going for them.

When I told my boyfriend David Gerrold was posting on here, he was pretty stoked...:lol:

I think he is about to get into the 'Star Wolf' series as well...

***

As I'm watching the 'Blood and Fire' I'm noticing a familiar face:

Is that one of our Trek BBS posters as one of the ENT crewmembers who go on the Copernicus? USS Intrepid?

All in all, a pretty good episode...:techman:
