Sam Raimi Hints at Possible Spider-Man 4 Villain

Morbius is okay, but I'd much rather see the Lizard or Kraven. And after the last movie, I'm not so sure I want to see anything.

S3 is retched and he completely botched Venom.

Well it wasn't all his fault. As we all know by now, Raimi was strong armed into putting in venom by Avi Arad.
That isn't an excuse. I've had to do things at various jobs I'd rather not, doesn't mean I get to slack off and do them badly without getting called on it.
I personally think that Raimi made Venom as bad as possible because he had said multiple times in interviews that he didn't like the character.

I'll see it, because it's a character I like and best seen on the big screen. But, boy, was I underwhelmed by 3. If we're lucky, Raimi was as well and will strive to redeem himself.

Snipes is going to be in jail for a while, otherwise he would've been one of the cast members for Stallone's The Expendables.

I wonder if they would consider work furlough. They've done it for far more violent/creepy offenders.

I'm less interested in what villain they use than in just hoping that they get the Black Cat in there somewhere.

Personally I wanted Russel Crowe as the Kangaroo and Antonio Banderas as The Tarantula.

also starring Oded Fehr as Kraven

Ben Kingsley as the Vulture

James Purefoy as the Hobgoblin

With Chris Rock as Rocket Racer

Helen Mirren as Madame Web

Jeffery Combs as Mysterio

Sam Neill as Spence Smythe

and Ray Stevenson as the Punisher...

I believe Avi is also to blame for Gwen Stacy not being in the first film and dying at the end, which really sucks from so many different directions. Imagine a world with Kirsten Dunst having plaid Gwen Stacy, and Bryce Howard playing MJ. Sigh.

That said, I think this franchise is FUBAR. I might give the next one a chance, but after the last one, it is by no means a certainty. Certainly choosing Morbius could be brave depending how it is handled. Wasn't there a rumor that 4 and 5 will be filmed concurrently and be closely tied together, so could 5 feature the Lizard as a villian if they follow the (IMHO brilliant) depiction of Morbius from TAS?

Yes, there has been speculation that they might film 4+5 at the same time. However, it was more than a year ago.

Another thing that bothered me was that even the action scenes were so poorly handled. It truly felt like Raimi just wasn't interested.

I think Spider-Man 4 would have been a great place to consider a creative reboot.

I dunno. Spider-Man 3 definitely was a creative dissapointment but it did have some stylish cinematography and the first action sequence between Peter and the "New Goblin" was pretty fun to watch (as was the one with "Emo Peter" and post-amnesia Harry... In fact all of the good parts of that movie featured Harry's character to some capacity).

I would agree, though, that if a reboot was ever necessary, it would be here. However, with that said, I haven't completely written off Raimi yet. I'm willing to give him another shot.

God, I hated the ENN (Exposition News Network) thing used to setup the end battle.

Yeah, SM1 and 2 were pretty good but Rami dropped the ball for three.

I don't hate Spidey 3 as much as many other people here but I agree that it didn't live up to the high standards of the first two. Why is it that superhero threequels never get it right? Okay, usually it's the replacing of the original director - Donner with Lester, Burton with Schumacher, Singer with Ratner - but that wasn't the case here. (Over to you, Mr Nolan, by the way)

I agree with the view that Arad made Raimi shoehorn in a character that he had no interest in, namely Venom, and that the movie suffered as a result. I liked how Sandman was done and THC was a perfect piece of casting. Like Raimi, I don't really care for Venom but I liked the idea of Venom as an anti-Spidey being balanced by his counterpart being an anti-Peter. Unfortunately, it just sort of fell apart at the end and the comedy stuff didn't work.

As for a 4th movie, well I think they can still turn it around. The scriptwriter they've hired seems to be good and no doubt a lot of care will go into this one to avoid the mistakes of its predecessor. But I have to say, I don't really care for the idea of Morbius. I'm an old school fan, so I'd like to see the Lizard and even the Vulture versus The Spider.

To be fair, Morbius came only 8 years after Vulture and Lizard (1963-1971). Lizard would be a good 'companion villain.' Throw in the Black Cat and I might watch.

Good Gawd, Raimi. This is Spider-Man. Not Twilight. I thought the Jazz Dance scene was bad enough.

Spider-Man 3 was underwhelming despite all the hype and build up towards it. I was looking forward to seeing Venom but they didn't even execute the character properly and the Sandman sub-plot didn't really work for me. I would have perferred just two villians with Peter dealing with Harry as the New Goblin and the coming of Venom. There were too many things going on in Spider-Man 3 and not enough time dealing with the characters themselves. There was really no point having Bryce as Gwen Stacy...as I've stated in other Spider-Man movie threads I would've liked to have seen Reese Witherspoon play Gwen with Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane in a supporting role as Harry's girlfriend.
