Re: SG-A – Enemy At The Gate (5x20) FINALE – (Discuss – Grade | SPOILE
Pretty good finale to the series, I was dreading that it would be much worse. The fact that they crammed an entire series finale into 42 minutes though is completely unforgivable. Particular after the completely useless, pointless, and boring 'Vegas'. Enemy at the Gate as a feature length two parter, would have been BRILLIANT. A bit more padding, less rushing around, some nice character moments etc... - but no, Mallozi and co thought watching Sheppard play poker was more important

Anyway, anti-Vegas rant over.
Action-packed, epic, nice graphics, good drama. What I also liked was that they gave everyone something to do, even Kavanagh. Keller's 20 second scene however pretty much symbolised her character on SGA: a blubbering, wussy little girl.
The General Hammond was an excellent touch.
Ronan being resurrected was expected from the ball-less writers. Having said that I'm glad he didn't stay dead though; especially after the glorious death of err... being stabbed by a Wraith. Not quite fitting.
Why couldn't they just toss a few naquadah bombs through the Stargate onto the ship? Problem solved in about 5 seconds. HUGE plot hole.
The "wormhole drive"

That made me laugh, I couldn't quite believe the writers were that stupid. All been said before, possibly the worst, most obvious and convenient deus ex machina
EVER. Truly cringeworthy, and could have been avoided by, oh I don't know... Atlantis, NOT coming out of hyperspace half way through?? It's not like it was an insurmoutable plot hole! Terrible.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the schematic showed Atlantis landing in the middle of the Pacific... then all of a sudden they were a few miles from SF...

- wouldn't the tidal wave from the landing have been pretty big?
But on the whole I thought it was a fun ride. The space battles were great, as was the Dart/302 dogfight. The storyline should have been saved for the SGA movie really, but never mind. I'm just so pissed off they wasted the penultimate ep on 'Vegas' urgh. What a waste.
Very good.
To me, the big problem was the faceless enemy, Earth is menaced by Wraith we haven't seen before.
That's one of the major problems on SGA, apart from Todd, the Wraith have always been a faceless enemy. Which meant endless gunfights with the same wraith guards, escaping from un-named hive ships every season, and very little personality. That combined with the generic villages on every planet, made for very dull story arcs.
Golden Gate bridge...STAR TREK IV REFERENCE. Bad idea to reference a better franchise.
You're kidding, right? That has to be a joke.
Why does that have to be a joke? Star Trek
is a superior franchise to Stargate. In every way.
I have a feeling they didn't have a lot of control at the time over where they were going to land the city. The situation seemed rather rushed.
might not have had much choice, depending on how much power was left to fly the city
That's not the point. The writers should have made Atlantis crash land in the Atlantic ocean, not the pacific.
I gave it a Good. Not bad, but not great.
As they're making they're escape out of the hive, I really wanted to see one of the masked Wraith soldiers start attacking the other soldiers, buying the team some time, and then after Shep goes through the gate, the soldier rips off his mask revealing Super Ford. He realizes that they're back and Earth, and the humans are about to win the battle. He says "I finally get to see my Grandma again!" and heads toward the gate, to follow his friends back home, only to have the gate suddenly shut down. Pan back to show the exterior shot of the hive blowing up... Thus finally resolving the Ford storyline.
Wow, that would have been... terrible! Surely you're joking??
First Stargate: Universe promo I've seen, hrmmm, red glowing gate? AWESOME, IMO it SHOULD be red, just like the Milky Way gates.
That's just the standard stargate model their SFX department has, I doubt it has any bearing on the colour of the SGU stargate. It'll probably be green for all we know.
