NFL Discussion - 2008-09 Playoffs

I hope it's the Ravens and Cards in the Super Bowl. I don't want to see Pittsburgh in the big game mainly because if they win the SB, it would be championship number 6 and well, as a Niner fan, that's unacceptable.

:guffaw::guffaw:

I think it's so funny how football really brings out the schadenfreude in so many of us. I know it does for me too. I'm a bigger fan of college football than pro but I will still find myself saying ugly things that I generally wouldn't say when it's not football season.

^^^
I've nearly stopped caring for college football. The inter conference games are worth watching but the cherry picked schedules and meaningless bowl games where mediocrity is rewarded and when its all done you still have 2-3 debating who #1 "should be" its made me not care for the last 4 years. My college football viewing ends at week 12.

I'm thinking that no matter which two teams make it to the Super Bowl, we're going to have some great storylines. I'm pulling for Pittsburgh, primarily because Rothelisberger is a Miami U. alum. PLus I rather like the idea of a team having a MAC quarterback starting and being backed up by another MAC quarterback!

Arizona brings a great story with the return of Kurt Warner to the SB, after he was done in St. Louis and bounced to the Giants and then the Cards. Funny how Whisenhunt made the decision early to hitch their ride to the wily, experienced veteran who can still sling it and take a hit, over the hotshot young prospect. And you GOTTA love a team that finishes the season 8-8 and still goes on the run to get to the big game. Who needs NC State?!?!?!

Philly... brings the resurrection of Donovan McNabb plus a chance to bring another major sports championship to Philly in the same year. Plus, just think about it. If they win it all, we can look at it as the champion that actually couldn't beat the Cincinnati Bengals!!!

Baltimore has the story of is led by the renewed frightfest of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, along with the first div 1-AA / FBS quarterback to lead his team to the Super Bowl in his rookie season.

I see only good things from any combination of these.

9-7. San Diego was the 8-8 team.

Ooops. That's right. Of cours that means that one of the SB teams will have had a regular season of only 9 wins, which is still amusing.

I definitely get what you're saying. I grew up in Tallahassee, Florida though so the chance of me stopping caring for college football is pretty much nada.

^With the way you've been talking the Cardinals up, can we count on a JKTim level blow up when they lose?

That's "if they lose," Scooter ... and it's a very big "if," 'cause they ain't gonna lose.

Unfortunately for you kites, no.

They've already exceeded my expectations this year. Even a crushing defeat to Philly will not dampen my glee.

The Cardinals are in the NFC Championship game.

Let's repeat that for the incredulous.

As a Steelers fan, I totally understand that feeling. It's the biggest reason I'm grateful to the Giants for knocking off the Patriots last year-- I didn't want to see another team pull off 4 Super Bowl wins in 6 seasons.

Naturally, from my point of view, a 6th Super Bowl would be sweet, since it would put the Steelers back at the top of the list, where they were before 1994.

And Arizona playing at home for the NFC Championship? I'm pretty sure that's one of the Biblical signs of the apocalypse....

As am I. To give proper perspective on this.....if my info is correct, the last time the Cardinals hosted the Championship, the Cubs played in the World Series. Strangely enough, they beat the Eagles 28-21.

I'll be rooting for the Eagles next week. If it can't be the Giants then it might as well be the team they lost to.

Hisss.

Much as I hate their ownership, I have to root for the Cards to go to the SB. Too much of a Cinderella story not too root for the hometown guys. Hope you understand...

Would be happy to see the Ravens vs Cards for the SB, but I'll be much happier to see the Steelers. The Cards have a better chance.

Even better....They're the home team. Did you see how quickly the tickets sold out yesterday? :wtf:

I think the Phillies winning the world series really ticked off the Eagles. For years, they were the ones that were supposed to end the championship drought. I think seeing the Phillies ride down Broad Street through a sea of red lends the Iggles a little extra motivation.

I'd like the Eagles to win, but I'm still glad it was the Phils and not that team that won first. The Eagles...I dunno, they just aren't as likeable. I was incredibly pissed off at the team when they benched McNabb - back then I thought it might be a permanent thing - and I haven't entirely forgiven Reid for it, even though the move appears to have worked out. He didn't even have the guts to tell McNabb in person that he was benched; he let one of his assistants do it. Between that and the Westbrook salary thing over the summer (although they did ultimately up his contract) I don't really like the organization. That said, I like the majority of the players and would really like to see McNabb get a ring.

When the Pack lost any chance in hell of making the playoffs, I rooted for the Vikes. When the Vikes blew the very first playoff game that's when I started rooting for the Cards. While they are a "neutral" team from my standpoint, I can't help but be a sucker for underdog stories. Plus, Pheonix might be the future home town of my brother, so I might as well start my fandom for them now. ;)

As for the AFC, I'm praying for a Raven's win. There's only one team I want to see make it to the 6th SB championship mark and that's Green Bay. Granted, we've got some catching up to do, but I reserve hope that we'll get there. So Baltimore, if you'd be so kind as to indulge....? :D

Trust me, no one wants to see the Steelers get that 6th ring less than every member of the Baltimore Ravens.
