The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

Sorry, can't post it. I do appreciate your work though. Always have. 4madmen right? Reference to....? Greatfull Dead?
?

Thanks, but that's not me. FourMadMen also build ships in blender, though, but I haven't seen him around in a while.

I got my handle one day playing quake, because of my style. :) Someone said I played like a madman, so it stuck. :) I used to be BigMan, but that was back in the last century.

Got it, sorry for the missunderstanding.

Want something done, ya gotta do it yourself....

Good work MadMan, but this ship looks like it has a severe case of mondo saucer, way worse than even the Enterprise-D. It makes the engines look puny.

I don't think the saucer is any where near as big as the "Ugly Duckling" nor the Enterprise Elongated! Looks pretty resonable to me.

OK, I'm still here! Been a very busy week, and then Windows7 had to come out, I've been setting that up on my box for a couple of days.

Finally got to work on my bridge, and I like this MUCH better than what I had before.

I stuck a huge Glowing window at the back, figured it could become the big window in the new conference room. :)

In other words, it's an accurate depiction of the new design.

I think so. The ship as seen in the trailer clips does give the same impression - that the ship is giving the Enterprise-D a run for its money in terms of front-heaviness.

Edit: Hey MadMan, how's about a few other angles? :D

We'll see. It does look just slightly different from the Koerner, the one in the movies that is, but I don't see madman's as being that heavy in the front. I could be wrong, I often am, but then again, I'm right about a lot of things. :)

OK, so my windows looked like crap, so I fixed them.

About the "mondo saucer", I agree. :) The main complaint on my last version was that the saucer was way too small, which is why I based off of Judxavier's blueprints this time. I think he hit it pretty close to the mark, here.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the nacelles... I wonder if now mine are too small? Too late to change them, though.

Windows Update:

And other angles, as requested...

Something else... I'm surprised at how many features this has in common with Gabe's enterprise... I wonder if he got anything for his inspiration. :)

Jesus, those other angles make this look like crap. An insider on TrekMovie claimed the promotional image was one of the less attractive angles, but if this model is accurate, I don't see how that's true. (Err, no offense to your actual mesh, MadMan. This is Ryan Church's fault!)

Probably a check with a few zeroes and a nondisclosure agreement.

As for the latest renderings, at least the hangar deck doesn't look like a Pez dispenser anymore.

Just a thought...have you considered making a version with straight pylons and further apart nacelles? I think that would help the design a ton.

Great model work as usual.

But.

Wow, this version of the ship looks like shit! Your nacelles may be slightly too narrow, as you say. But thickening them sure won't save that! The only half-good angle is the rear/bottom shot, since it covers up the weird proportions somewhat. I hope this version of the ship is less accurate than I originally thought.

Dang, I don't know how to put this in a nicer way so I'll just say it: This version of the ship looks like a retarded cripple.

Jimmah!

I'd still like to see it finished up, maybe that will help it some.

EDIT: The gabe version is a lot more angular and preserves most of the original proportions, but some of the detailing is pretty similar. Not the same, but certainly similar.

I don't know, I think it's ok. I do like my other version better, but I think this one might look pretty good when it's all detailed out.

Like I said, I know there are some problems, where it doesn't match what we can see in the clips we've seen so far. My neck on this one is too narrow, and my nacelles seem to be a little too thin, and too high up. Oh well. :)

Yeah, I think a shuttle might actually fit inside this one. :)

Ok, now that I'm done over-reacting, here's what I think:

If you lower and widen the position of the nacelles a little, and make them somewhat bigger, it'd do a lot for the ship's appearance, imo.

I do like the larger hangar and the new nacelle ends better on this version too. And the bridge area is very nice. The impulse engines are very good looking.

Don't mind emotional outbursts from me too much right now, it's late. ;)

Not a problem. :) I think I may work on those proportions a little.

Thought I throw in 2 more cents...

I think you've pretty damn well nailed it. :) (Pixelmagic's too)..
Obviously there will be all level of tiny details that would be impossible to guess at this point, but as to a really good overall look and feel of the new design, I think this is really "it".

Believe me, I remember working on this thing, and making a much bigger saucer, saying to myself "no f--king way!?!?"...but, that really seemed to match all of the different screencaps.

At this point, I'm waiting for the movie, and a flood of books to follow.
"The Art of Star Trek (XI)" "The Making of Star Trek (XI)",
"Scotty's Guide to Star Trek (XI)"...

Yep, I am going to get any and all of those books as well. :)

Well, I make the engines a little bigger, moved them down, and straightened the pylons just a little......

Well, I think that is just about right! Whether it's accurate, or not, it looks good. :)
