Star Wars: The Clone Wars 1 X 11: "Dooku Captured" (Spoilers)

But 'Bombad Jedi' did remind me of one question I've had since the Clone Wars movie. Will Ahsoka ever find out Anakin and Padme's secret? It just seemed like 'little clues' such as Ani's cloak (though it could be any Jedi's) being in Padme's compartment might join together with other things she observes or hears tell of. Being his padawan, AT would be in position to catch things AS keeps from others.

IIRC, the only people who saw the Jedi cloak in Padme's closet were C3PO and Jar-Jar. JJ's too dumb to figure it out, and Threepio's too prim and tactful to tell anyone if he did. Although he'd probably gossip to Artoo, come to think of it, but Artoo's pretty good at keeping secrets. (I mean, hello, Artoo, did it ever occur to you to mention to Luke Skywalker, "Hey, by the way, I used to work for your dad and he's Darth Vader now?" In RotS, Captain Antilles only ordered Threepio's memory wiped, so Artoo should still have full memories of the whole saga. But nooo, the little fireplug likes the power that comes from having secrets and being the big knowitall.)
R2 did finally show Luke some holos he had of Anakin and Padme in the Dark Nest novel trilogy. So yeah, it took like 30 years but he did finally show Luke that he knew his parents.

Trying to remember, but doesn't Dark Nest also explain that the reason Artoo had done so in the past was that that part of his memory had some sort of file encryption/memory block that was decaying and making Artoo freak out, and Luke to get a slicer to force Artoo to unlock the file.

Close.

That's so weird that Best didn't do Jar Jar, since he does Jar Jar in everything from video games to Colbert Report to Robot Chicken. Hunh.

I wouldn't call Jar Jar smarter than he looks. I certainly didn't interpret his actions as intentional, he just seems to be messing up like normal. If he did it on purpose that'd be nicer, but it didn't seem that way to me. More like the clones knew he would mess up without meaning to.

Also, notice that Jar Jar murdered that poor Senator. The idiot couldn't close his seatbelt, so the Senator got out to help him, and then HIS seat was the one to knock loose to kill him, probably because it was disengaged and then back!

I'm not talking about that part. I'm talking about his insights earlier. He noticed the response of the animals to the acid geysers and reasoned that they could use the animals as an indicator of how safe it was to be near the geysers. He also had the idea of using the animals to ride after the pirate convoy, and presumably played a key role in the unseen process of convincing them to accept riders. He may be awkward in most technological environments, but he's good with nature.

Actually they made a point of showing that Senator Kharrus's harness was secured again before it gave way. And some of the troopers died in the crash too. Even if you're right about the cause and effect, it's absurd to say that it was "murder" just because Kharrus chose to help someone in need and lost his life as a result. If a firefighter dies pulling a baby out of a burning building, does that mean the baby murdered the firefighter? Of course not, and it would be a hideous suggestion that devalued the firefighter's courage and willingness to sacrifice for another.

Ah yes, I will grant Jar Jar helping with the animals/geysers. I don't remember them showing the harness being secured after the fact, I'll take your word on it.

That he has already done the voice in a previous episode is the most surprising part. Scheduling conflict??? Maybe he could rerecord the lines for the DVDs. Normally it would be unlikely but it would be a very Lucas-like thing to do.

I don't think Jar-Jar is smart, per se. Quite the opposite, given all evidence. I think a better word is "intuitive". And "lucky", let's not forget supremely "lucky", both of which point to a Force sensitivity. Not all Force-sensitives have to be smart. There's not really a link there.

The music from part 2 sounded exceptionally "Star Warsy" to me Friday night. I really liked these 2 episodes, but they weren't my favorite so far.

He's smart about things in his own area of experience, such as the natural world. In his native environment, he's very capable and graceful. But in the ultratechnological environs of the Republic, he's out of his element and is much more awkward.

Intelligence isn't absolute. Most people are smart about some things and dumb about others.

True. When it comes to communicating with "beasts" and eliciting their help, Jar-Jar seems to be quite skillful.

Did anyone else feel like there was an episode missing at the beginning of this story? I know the extensive intro, explaining Anakin's mission and capture, had me running to the internet to see if I had missed an episode.

Also, I did wonder if Jar Jar's antics interfering with the Clone pilot were at least partially responsible for them being shot down. I would like to see the character of Jar Jar redeemed in this series, but so far I think they are walking a very fine line.

Me too! :D I was also cursing my DVR. :alienblush:

QFT.

I don't see a huge difference between Jar Jar in this series and in TPM. I never had a problem with him. Maybe its just context. That people saw him as a distraction from the main storyline in the films. But the series is about a lot of smaller characters. Also we all had a decade to get use to him! (wow it really has been that long!!!!!)

Jar-Jar may very well be force sensitive, I remember reading a story a while back about a charater who was born in the republic being very strong with the force, but his parents kept the Jedi from taking him and he grew up to be a very sucessfull, and lucky person

The SW films have always started in medias res with the text scrolls explaining the story so far, in order to capture the flavor of the episodic '30s/'40s movie serials the original trilogy was paying homage to. TCW is doing the same thing except with "newsreel" openings instead of text scrolls, but given that these actually are installments of an ongoing weekly series, it can get confusing.

The opening of "Dooku Captured" was a particularly extreme example, but in retrospect it makes sense, because it was necessary to conceal the fact that Anakin's capture was a ploy to get close to Dooku.

Well, it didn't help, but given that the pirates were determined to shoot the transport down anyway, I'm not sure it made a decisive difference.

The Official Star Wars website has cute little short comic books that help explain things right up to the beginning of episodes. They aren't necessary, but they do come in handy.

Anakin was indeed bait for the capture attempt on Dooku, and apparently that little salacious monkey was responsible for Anakin and Obi-Wan being drugged and captured, even though they managed to escape their drinks being spiked.
