Pic of medical tricorder, communicator, and comm ear piece...

I just think, McCoy never had a medical tricorder. It looks much more like the old hypospray he used.

Did he even use a regular one? I'm not so sure. I just find it odd to have a prop that looks nothing like we've had before when the other two are fairly similar.

I just have a hunch this will turn out to be a hypospray or some sort of scanner.
He did have a medical tricorder with a detached hand scanner which was sometimes used independently of the tricorder for basic diagnostic tasks. Both can be seen in this cap from "The Man Trap" and more in the other caps surrounding it.

Edit:

It's the hand scanner and definitely not the hypospray.

I'm just saying ;)

Yeah, I had a feeling he might have had one. I just couldn't remember.

I'm sorry but I'll still say no.

I think you are overthinking this and trying to add complication where none is necessary.

It's the medical tricorder or more likely as others have said the hand held, scanner part of it.:)

Given the lack of any other evidence at this point, I'm going to go for the long shot of saying its a hypospray. :p

Oh, and here is another picture of the bottom of...of whatever it is (:p). I'm at work at the moment and I haven't got photoshop - I don't know if anyone wants to try and clear it up

And thus begins another long and bitter dispute.

Clearly, the people who displayed these items are too dumb to know what they are. Here on the TrekBBS, we shall search for the TRUTH.

imo, it is obviously a klingon disruptor. I will repeat this assertion 1,200 times in this thread until it becomes indisputable fact. Enjoy.

Oh but there is evidence. I posted the photo that says what it is earlier too.

You just choose to ignore it in true Trek fan fashion. :p

Anyway, no matter what it is I'm sure the redshirts will still see no benefit and will die.

Well, in my very own personal canon it is Uhura's dildo.:shifty:

I've seriously got to stop thinking of long tube type objects in the real world.

That plastic end bit looks like something you used to put 35mm film in when you took it to be developed. Or one of the those epipens that people with allergies use.

I'm leaning towards epipen. If this thing is a thin as my version of the salt grinder, its pretty thin.

Must do work. Must stop thinking about tube shaped objects.

Just be careful not to call it a hyp0spray; the repercussions could be, well... pretty serious.

I will toy with it and see what I can see.

No... no-no-no-no-NO!

I can't actually say what it really is (after all, this is a family forum!) but it will be used in the "Kirk/Orion-girl" scene, and should get the movie at the very least an NC-17 rating.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

The only thing that even remotely suggests it's a hypospray is the syringe-like thumb loop at the top. But that could well function as a belt hook in the film.

Jon, the EpiPen suggestion is an interesting one. I'm looking into it as we speak...

Sorry, but [censored] are not canon. I mean, there have been hundreds of hours of Trek, and aside from the huge rock-[censored] that Kirk used on Ruk, there has been no mention that [censored] exist in the Trek universe. So logically [censored] do not exist.

And if they did exist, they would be constructed in space.

Unless you meant 'hair curler', in which case, nevermind.

So as I was saying: Klingon Disruptor. Those ARE canon.

That's all I'm seeing in the loop. It's very much like the kind of loop to which a lanyard or wrist strap would be attached, or by which it could be hung on a belt or in a belt case.

Oh, dear.

I'm also thinking it could be a flashlight. Not this one, but you see what I mean. Would explain all the wires inside it. You can sort of see where the bulb screws in.

Must. Stop.

The flashlight has been bandied about over on the RPF, too, but I haven't googled anything that looks enough like the prop part.

Part of the problem with both the flashlight and EpiPen ideas is that the plastic housing on the prop is crystal clear, but on the pens and flashlights, it's always cloudy.

And the more I look at the end of the scanner, the more it looks like a push button electrical switch of some kind. That textured bit in the middle would even make a great spot to push with a finger.

The same as what? We still aren't sure just what the hell the thing is, only that it's doubtful that the "tricorder" label is accurate. Their answer to the "communicator/cell phone" comparison debates was to actually turn the communicator into a cell phone, and as for the earpiece? Who gives a rat's ass about the earpiece when everything around it is utter bilge?
