    Darkwing_Duck1,
I said what I intended to say. Maybe it was exaggerated, but that's what I think of the design by in large.

I don't think it was intentional either, it's just that JJ Abrams' just has really bad taste when it comes to re-imagining Star Trek designs...

Who knows! I doubt it though

I actually dislike the movie for other reasons as well. The graphics though does *NOT* help though...

What is they do not get?
That there are Trek-Fans who are just to (intellectually) inflexible to accept a new design for the Enterprise?

I did schematics of a reimagined refit many years ago. I've since modified my idea and have some sketches buried somewhere. I'll try to dig them up to share here.

    ST-One,
JJ Abrams didn't understand how ST-Fans wanted the Enterprise to be Re-Imagined.

It's not entirely that the Enterprise is a new design -- it's that most fans do not like the particular characteristics of the new-design.

I'm glad that he and his team don't listen to what we fan-bois want.

    Most?
    Hardly.

It's garnered enough of a negative backlash that no model company is ponying up to produce a model kit of the thing. I'll take that as a better indicator of fan reaction than any online poll.

To be fair, I have yet to see much more than the usual Playmates/AA stuff that gets put out every so often...no rush to merchandise the film PERIOD, not just the ship.

Yeah, as much as I dislike the design "improvements," the idea that there's no model planned may only reflect the pathetic state of the model-kit industry these days.

It's sad, really... every time a company comes along and makes cool, popular stuff, they end up going out of business or being purchased by someone else who doesn't put any value on what they do....

... or they only sell their stuff in Japan and Europe, but due to licensing issues can't sell them directly in the US market (see the German "Revenge of the Sith" kits).

    Some seriously goofy decisions.

Polar Lights' kits did very well... because (1) they were something NEW (not just a repackaging of something old), (2) were of POPULAR subjects (not something obscure and uninteresting... well, except for the Scorpion), and (3) were high-quality.

At least the most recent purchaser of that property recognizes what they've got, it seems.

The issue with the new film? It's got NEW stuff, and they may well be able to make high-quality stuff. But will it be a popular subject? We don't know... I doubt it, personally, but I'm not cocky enough to say with absolute certainty that it won't turn out that way.

There's also the whole issue of "how long does it take to make a model?" It's not a 1-week turn-around, after all... so it may well be that nobody at the kit manufacturers had even seen the design 'til a few weeks ago (security, all that). And the kit might be in-the-works, but not yet announced, right now.

    Possible? Sure...

But I can safely say I, personally, won't be buying a copy if it is.

Both, the Kelvin and the Enterprise.

The folks at Round 2 (the current incarnation of PL/AMT) cited negative fan reaction as a reason why they won't be persuing a license.

What negative fan reaction? Where'd you read this about the company?

I mean, I'm kinda luke-warm on the new design, but we havn't got more than 2-3 pictures of it that are any good and a few half-second clips of it in action. There seems to be at least as many people who love the new design as hate it, and plenty of people like myself - not in love, but not really complaining too much either.

Besides, they've already made a toy prototype along with the action figures, didn't they? That's not a model, but still, it's something.

The Kelvin, I'd probably buy... I LIKE that ship design!

    The "nuEnterprise?" Not-so-much.

Of course, that's just me... and in any case, I think it's a fair bet that you'll end up seeing a half-dozen versions of the "nuEnterprise" on this site within six months:

My source is a discussion on hobbytalk.com, where a poster passed on the answer he'd gotten when he asked someone at Round 2 about it.

On a side note, Round 2 has the absolutely best customer service response I've ever seen, in any industry.

I'm perfectly happy with Gabriel Koerner's design, which is what the movie ripped off, after the fanboys on this and other forums trashed for years. Com'on, can't you see that similarities? When I first saw the "New" ship, I thought of Gabe's version.

So third-hand information at best. Certainly not a reliable source.
