Did you learn something new today?

I learned some really juicy dirt on my employers, which I may be able to use to my advantage when I kick this job to the curb.

Come on, spill it here & now. You know you want to.

Oh you just had to prod me

I found out the incompetent megabitch office manager/one woman HR department was hired because she fucked the company owner to get the job. The only reason she hasn't been fired (she is a class action lawsuit in waiting) is because she's still fucking him to stay in his good graces.

Also, unbeknownst to anyone else at my work, the company's former co-owner is starting a competing business in March and is planning on siphoning employees from my boss one by one. I'm on his list of people he intends to "steal".

Oh hoho lovely dirt there indeed. Who needs Desperate Fucking Housewives when one has this board ?:D

I learned that the only copies of Rawhead Rex I could find will cost me over 100 dollars. So I must see if my movie nerd friends can hook me up somehow.

Awesome.

See, don't you feel better now you've told us all? Gossip is GOOD. :D

I learned my coffee maker was broken after I'd poured the water into it.

And I also learned that Target is sold out of my coffee maker and I had to make do wit a Black & Decker.

I learnt that biologists have discovered a species of frog in Borneo that has no lungs. It absorbs all the oxygen it needs though its skin.

Show-off. :p
For the record, I couldn't do it. Neither could my consultant. :D

My claim to fame is IVs in the back of the rig at 40mph. Back of the hand though, the "easy" one.
Not the "Houseman's Favourite" then? (radial edge of wrist) ;)

Desperate TrekBBSers? :scream:

Anyway, today I learned that the search for the 11th Doctor is over, and an announcement will be made tomorrow.

[still keeping fingers crossed it will be Patricia Routledge :D]

^Hey it fits, I know I am pretty Desperate for certain things a lot of the time!

And nice news about the Doctor there, I'll be looking for that tomorrow as well.

Oh and as mentioned in the lounge, I learnt that I was correct in my assumption that I was still going to be enjoying "Hot Fuzz" more then "Shaun of the Dead" after having seen the latter.

Speaking of such things, I also learned that Mamma Mia! is the biggest-selling DVD in the UK... ever.

:guffaw:

It's been a long time since I did cannulation with any regularity, but I never liked messing around with the back of the hand. I just dug into the antecubital. It's a whacking big vein & bigger than the ones in the hand. And if someone is shutting down anyway due to shock, I found the antecubital is easier to hit than the hand veins. Most of the time people had difficulty, it was because they didn't go in deep enough. Sure, it hurts more than the back of the hand, but it's a quicker job, has a higher chance of success (so the overall pain is less) and the venflon stays in place for longer so you don't need to stick a new one in all the time(admittedly, partly because the patient doesn't like bending their arm much... ;) )

I rather enjoyed doing venflons as a houseman; I was the one my friends called when they couldn't get one sited, so I collected lots of favours in return.

:vulcan:

Does the TARDIS come in Angel Gabriel blue?
She'll make sure the TARDIS toilet paper is quilted, of course. :bolian:

Venflons were the bane of my house officer's year. Everyone needed one but no-one could do them, and everyone would ask me to do them for them. As for the antecubital fossa, it's the sort of place that a renal consultant would deeply frown upon - they usually save those veins plus the veins of the wrist in case they need to perform an AV fistula for haemodialysis in the future. Me, I just tell them that the patient's going into shock and needs immediate resuscitation. They then of course tell me to put in a central venous line. Of course, for urgent dialysis they'd end up putting a dual-lumen venous catheter anyway. Such is life. [sigh]

Renal consultants are like those guys who play RPGs and hoard all the really cool potions & pills until the final boss. Use them evenly through the game; it's more fun & easier that way!!! :D

Infibulation

I was reading the travel writings of Waugh and I came across this word. I knew by the context that it probably had something to do with copulation (or as it turns out lack there of) but I don't remember ever hearing it before so I had to look it up. My spellchecker is also unfamiliar with the word.

i learned Matt Smith will be the 11th Doctor, and i'm okay with that.

I learned that Doctor Who fans can be just as petty, or even more petty than, Trekkies when it comes to bashing change with no evidence.

I'm not opposed to change, but I think it's about time for an older Doctor again. At this rate, the 12th and 13th Docs might not even have to shave when they're cast. :p

Here's what I learned today: Ice sucks. At least when driving. :(
