I wouldn't mind seeing more shotguns like the AA-12 on the show for some close quarters carnage and also the Barrett M82 for long range combat operations.

    An even bigger question is:

Why did the SGC never even spend 1 second researching the weapons they found, and creating some type of human made equivalent??

I remember when I saw the Intars, and I though "cool, it's about time they started manufacturing some human made energy guns" and then totally dissapointed when it turned out to be yet "another" Goaul'd weapon.

As for the original question. Why don't they show the crew using some "Ancient" guns?

I mean in the entire span of the series in Atlantis, I think they're shown an Ancient Handgun *once*. I would think they'd be a bit more common to find than that.

Well I'd imagine its because they already have stock of Goa'ould energy weapons .Why spend your budget on an experimental, unreliable test gun when you have a perfectly good collection of zats and staffs at the ready AND that anti-kull weapon.

I do agree there should be zats in Atlantis, though someone mentioned earlier it wasn't in Atlantis cause of royalty considerations.

I would be REALLY surprised if they actually used Tau'ri weapons for very long in the show. It would make sense at first, but extensive use of non energy when they have no realistic way of replenishing their ammo reserves makes little to no sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if they used Zats and/or lethal versions of Intars. Or maybe they'll develop weapons like Ronon's Traveler gun.

There's a very simple reason why they don't use a lot of zats or staff weapons or whatever and continue to use conventional firearms that means the new show will ALSO do so: budget.

Hiring out real guns and buying blanks and squibs is cheaper than CGing the effects of the weapons fire.

Well seeing as this is supposted to be an Ancient ship they will probably have a ton of Ancient energy weapons to use also they should keep the p 90s.

Why though would this ship have weapons on board. If it is an automated ship meant to deliver Stargates to far away planets, unmanned in its intent, why would it have weapons on board? What if some alien race had found the ship and got ahold of advanced weapons, surely the Ancients wouldn't be THAT stupid.

Well, in that case, why would it have food or air?

I'm surprised they haven't made their guns little coil/rail guns. Ammunition could be manufactured basically anywhere, and have higher penetrating power in a smaller package...

Remember, the story will involve TWO ships. The first is an unmanned vessel that will "seed" the galaxies it passes through with stargates, and possibly human populations. The Destiny is the second ship, made to follow the course of the first one and investigate all those strange new worlds.

Probably why they made the Wraith Stunners, though for the Wraith a pure stun only weapon is perfect sense

For ship weapons I want a "Twistor Gun" it can fire an beam that only collimates at the end of the beam, so it can pass through anything because it phases through subspace, but you have to not only control where the beam is pointing, but also where you want the end of the beam to come out into real space at. Also make it take a complete crapton of energy to fire and you have to re-charge the thing for several minutes before firing. Mayeb it uses a few old scrapped gates as energy capacitors.

So you can only fire it a few times in battle and aiming the thing is next to impossible without a lot of experience and/or use of a chair.

    Thread revive!

The new MGM Stargate site has posted various clips which have conslusively shown that at least through the first batch of episodes, the SGU team will be equipped with G36 type rifles. Not a P-90 in sight!

These rifles were seen on occasion in the latter two seasons of SG-1 and eventually made their way over to Atlantis for rare use. Compared to the compact P-90s, it's nice to see a whole offworld base be equipped with these much more powerful weapons.

I wonder how long it'll be before they have to address the issue of ammunition...

I already have G36 fatigue from all the shows and movies those things show up in

I'd rather see a Tavor (Israeli rifle) or a Steyr AUG A3 (Austrian rifle), solid, futuristic looking guns that haven't gotten a lot of exposure.

I have yet to spot the classic P90, anyone see it? The seem to be more fond of handguns on this series.

Really? Are there more details on this online somewhere? I googled a bit but couldn't find anything. Stuff like this always fascinates me. However, IIRC, weren't there a couple SGA eps around S3 and 4 where Zats appeared every now and then when an SG1 or Earth cross over would happen?

Zats were only seen at the SGC, sadly, never on Atlantis
