To See or Not To See?

Do you currently intend to see the movie?

  • I don't have serious concerns about the movie, but probably won't see it.

And to think that they could've spent the same amount on about seven seasons of a new Star Trek tv series.

Would a new series have been a better gamble than a new movie? Doubtful. The ratings for new ST have been on a downward slide since DS9.

The general public only have to commit to a two-hour movie, and may become new (or revived) ST fans as a result. That's a much easier sell than seven years of a TV show, not to mention the fear that low ratings might cut it short, as they did ENT.

The studio would also be able to tell if they've got a hit or turkey on their hands long before they hit the $150 million mark, as well as make any corrections that might be needed to straighten things out and improve their chances of making back their investment.

A one season flop? They might be out $50 million in production and development costs, and that's gonna be mitigated by the sponsor and station money that's gonna be there regardless.

A flop of a movie? Like the old formula goes, if you don't make back at least twice your budget, it's a flop, and the bigger your budget, obviously, the bigger the hole you have to dig yourself out of. And $150 million is one helluva deep hole.

HUH-OH....

I like this movie, ("Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins") I have it on VHS.:)

I'm apparently gonna love Trek XI.

Is that logical???

You forgot the "I have absolutely NO concerns about this movie, and I can't wait to see it because it's Star Trek and it fucking rocks!" option box...

Meanwhile, here's a list of people who are full of it....

3D Master, Admiral2, Captain Mike, Captain Robert April, CuttingEdge100, JBElliott, Jolly St Picard, MattJC, Rarewolf, rnnstp, SheliakBob, theelnombre

Come off it!! You know you'll be seeing it opening night! If nothing else, you'll want to see it just to be able to complain about it! Every single person who is taking the time to comment on how much they hate it is going to see this movie. That's why it's going to make some serious bank! :guffaw:

No sir. I humbly propose that you are entirely mistaken, in at least one instance. I genuinely have no intention of watching this movie, at least not in the theaters. I suppose it will eventually catch me on cable or on a rental or be shoved down my throat as a "gift" dvd from a well-intentioned but also mistaken friend. As to whether or not I am "full of it", that is a matter of dietary fiber and a rather personal one at that. You may speculate as you will.
While we may be a minority, I assure you that there really are fans who see this movie as a betrayal and a mistake. I don't fault you youngsters for being all pro-reboot. That's just the way of things. Circle of Life and all that.
I'm just saying that this particulary old Grump will NOT be joining you in the lines on opening night. Whatever my reasons or your opinion of them, I do have the right to avoid this film--and I intend to use it.
The future apparently belongs to your kind.
Try not to be so mean about it.
Peace.

I'm looking forward to this film and I'm not one of the "youngters."

I find your remarks about people who genuinely want to see this film kind of insulting. It implies that we "youngters" don't know any better. Shame on you. What exactly do you mean or imply by "your kind?"

^ Maybe it would be better if he just dropped that whole line of discussion as unproductive.

I'm not a youngster, either; I'd be willing to bet that I'm older and grumpier than number6, SheliakBob or even the ancient and curmudgeonly Captain Robert April. Yes, we know quite well that "there really are fans who see this movie as a betrayal and a mistake" because those people have been posting here, too, all along. Myself, I'm waiting to see what they've done with this movie before I criticize it for what it either is or isn't.

However, I will repeat once again that I'm seeing too many personal digs going on, including the sort listing "people who are full of it...."

I'd like that to stop now, please.

Yes, indeed. Can't we go back to debating the logic of Intelligent Design, please??

Regardless of whether it's logical, it would certainly be off-topic for this thread, of which I am the OP, so...uh...nyah.

I went to Burlington for some music festival.. Their slogan was "Welcome to Burlington, Now go the f*ck home!!"

You guys are no fun!! And your weed sucks!!

I fully intend to see it.

Do I have "concerns" about this movie? No idea. From what I know it could either be a good or a bad movie. We'll see which one applies...

No matter what we think now and how well the movie does or doesn't do, half the fanbase will still be locked in civil war with the other half a year from today. We're Trekkers. We devour our own.

Why would we share our good weed with Leafpeepers like you? :)

The real party started the moment you left!

Snootchie Bootchies, Trek Man!

We need to find J.J.'s Reboot Cave and get medieval on his continuity-altering ass!

SNOOGANS!

Oh come on. :( It will be fun and you know it. It's just a movie. I'll save you a seat? :)

And seriously, no insult was meant with the "full of it" speech. I was just joking around about the cliches of people who complain about stuff they "don't plan to ever see", by simply copying and pasting the names of the posters that had chosen that voting option. It was mainly supposed to be a joke, that's all.

However, I will repeat once again that I'm seeing too many personal digs going on, including the sort listing "people who are full of it...."

Not a problem! It was never intended to be "serious" or insulting. It was just fun ribbing. Didn't realize people were so sensitive about it all. No harm intended... :techman:
