The Official Christmas Alcohol Thread

... hot cocoa with butterscotch schnapps in it. It was delicious! Sadly, I had an allergic reaction to something and couldn't drink much.

Allergic to the chocolate or the alcohol? Neither fate sounds promising?

No clue. I've obviously had hot cocoa before with no issue (and this looked pretty standard). I think I've had that alcohol before too, but I can't be sure.

It might have been something else. I'm going to have another one tomorrow night under the guise of performing an experiment. :D

The Irish Cream turned out great! If anyone wants to make it, I melted about 280 grams of milk chocolate in a double boiler. In a large bowl I mixed a teaspoon of instant coffee powder (yeach I know, but I didn't have a chance to pick up a shot of espresso, which would be preferred.) a teaspoon of almond extract and a teaspoon of vanilla with some whiskey. Then I mixed the melted chocolate in with that. Added two cans each of evapourated milk and two of condensed milk and two cups and a bit of heavy cream. Whisked it all together while adding the rest of the 26 of irish whiskey. Made three bottles of irish cream. Delish! And considerably cheaper than baileys. :P
Excellent! This stuff should bring back my Irish memories. :D
I have to save that recipe. Reduce quantities, though.
Does it preserve well?

About three months. But you have to keep it refrigerated. I'm just banking on the fact that it won't last three months, so I'll never have to worry about it keeping any longer than that. :p

The Advancement of Science demands that you do so. ;)

Apologies for the thread bump, but we've been ploughing well through the alcohol this season...

2004 CVNE/Cune Rioja Reserva - I do like a nice rioja. This one's pretty damn good. Dark violet colour, black fruits & cedar & a bit of tobacco on the nose. Nice structure, balance and a general feeling of "ripeness" in the mouth. The oaking is not harsh, there's a nice pepperyness/spicyness to it and the finish is lengthy. It tastes stronger than the 14% marked on the bottle. But I don't mind that! Perhaps would have been better to wait another year or two, but... :)
