Space shuttles for sale: one careful owner, starting price $42m

I never said NASA sucks (although they could certainly use some re-invigoration), but I do admire these private space enterprises. :bolian:

Personally, I'd prefer to drive a classic.

I wonder if they have any Apollo capsules for sale....

You could claim salvage on one of the ones they left behind on the Moon.

You mean one of those LEMons? ;)

Actually, one of the deserted moon buggies would be cool ... you could open the first used car lot on the moon. Six of the buggies are there, right? (Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17)

Actually, they weren't carried by all missions; only 15, 16 and 17. So there are only three on the Moon. However, since the Apollo missions were originally scheduled to go up to 20, there may be three more complete rovers on Earth. I'm not sure about that.

After checking the contents of my wallet I have £35, $3 and 2000 yen. Thats my bid.
At the risk of taking a joke too seriously, why do you have so many different currencies?

The Queens currency as I'm British, dollars as my dads American and likes to send me dollar bills for no particular reason and the yen... someone who owed me money thought it would be funny.

I've got other currencies in other places that I just never cashed in as it wasn't worth it. Some of it isn't even useful now that the Euro's in place :(

Four lunar rovers were built, one each for Apollo missions 15, 16, and 17, and one that was used for spare parts after the cancellation of further Apollo missions.

However,
There were other LRV models built: a static model to assist with human factors design, an engineering model to design and integrate the subsystems, two 1/6 gravity models for testing the deployment mechanism, a 1-gravity trainer to give the astronauts instruction in the operation of the rover and allow them to practice driving it, a mass model to test the effect of the rover on the Apollo Lunar Module (LM) structure, balance and handling, a vibration test unit to study the LRV's durability and handling of launch stresses, and a qualification test unit to study integration of all LRV subsystems.

^^ Thanks, that's interesting. But I guess it means that there is no complete Rover of the version that was deployed left on Earth.

There was one on display at L.A.Con IV, the 2006 Worldcon:

(Apologies for the bad photo... I only have a cellphone camera.)

It would be an interesting conversation object to own I suppose, but the 1-gravity trainer sounds like it could be a fun thing to own - you know, the piloting vehicles at unsafe velocities-thing

sorry guys, but I'm getting them as collateral because Rockwell can't do direct deposit on time to save thier lives

Nice! Now there's people who know how to run an SF Con. :bolian:

I guess I'll have to settle for a bumper sticker that says, "My Other Car Is A Lunar Rover." :rommie:
