OMG! CALIFORNIA SNOWED IN ?......

K'riq Sa

Commodore
... Stormy weather anticipated for next week...

A series of low pressure systems are expected to bring periods of
rain and higher elevation snow to the central California interior
next week. The first system will spread precipitation into the
area by late Sunday and spread rain and mountain snow southward
through the central California interior through Monday. There is
still some uncertainty on how much precipitation will be produced
by this storm as it crosses our area... but it has the potential to
produce moderate to locally heavy precipitation across the
southern Sierra Nevada mountains and adjoining foothills Sunday
night and Monday. Snow levels will be around 6000 feet over
Yosemite park at the onset of the storm Sunday afternoon... but
lower to around 4000 feet by the time the precipitation tapers off
Monday evening. Over Kern County... snow levels will be around 7000
feet Sunday evening lowering to around 5000 feet by Monday
evening. The precipitation is expected to be all in the form of
rain over Interstate 5 through the Grapevine area and along
Highway 58 through the Tehachapi area.

This system will be followed by another Pacific storm system
which is expected to move through our area Tuesday night and
Wednesday followed by a third system Thursday night and Friday.
Although there is quite a bit of uncertainty in how much
precipitation these storms will produce and on how low snow levels
will lower to with these systems. There is the potential that
these systems could disrupt travel across the central California
interior next week. The precipitation could also produce a threat
of urban and small stream flooding in flood prone areas as well as
mud slides and debris flows over and near the recently burned
areas including the Telegraph fire burn area north of Mariposa and
the Piute fire burn area southeast of Lake Isabella.

The National Weather Service encourages you to continue to monitor
the latest forecast... statements and warnings as we approach the
Christmas Holiday travel period.

Will we be socked in by a Nor Eastern? is this the end of the world or just a normal weather storm? what do you think? what is the weather forecast for your area next week? will the internet be our sole link to civilaztion? will canabalizum of frothy naked women ensue?

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE.......

I'm snowed in right now. If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for them. :D

It doesn't count as snowed in until it approaches two metres of accumulation. Snowed in insinuates you can't even get out of the house.

Well it snowed around 1000 feet a week or two ago, and although it's not that common, it wasn't anything special. Central California is basically at sea level, so when it starts snowing at 10 ft. then I will start to worry. :p

Well it snowed around 1000 feet a week or two ago,
It's actually hitting the ground here today. I stepped out the back door and was 2 feet in the snow so I quickly brought one back in so it wasn't so deep.

I can't wait til BHO gets sworn in so the weather returns to normal.

Snowflakes were sprinkling in the air late on Tuesday night in Los Angeles after our wrap party. Nothing substantial, obviously, but they were nevertheless snowflakes.

Consider yourselves lucky. It's snowed here every day since last Sunday, which is highly unusual for the valley floor.

We're at about 6 of the 12 inches predicted after about 4 hours of snowing. My little scrub pines are bending right down to the ground. So I just went out to shovel the deck and the walk and a place for the cat to have a little "privacy" We're snowed in, up here on the southeast coast of Massachusetts tonight

No snow in Fresno, though we're supposedly threatened with it.

My brother in Henderson, Nevada (a suburb of Vegas) had over 4 inches of snow. Kids got to make snowmen.

The first time I was ever in a snow fall, I was in Vegas, back around 1998 or 1999.

We're at about 6 of the 12 inches predicted
That's about where we are and it's slowing down. But the wind is picking up so we'll have some good drifting.

Can't wait to try out my johnny bucket jr on the lawn tractor for doing the driveway in the morning. Woohoo

I live near Big Bear in SoCal and we had 2-4ft in some areas at the Cajon Summit. Yes, it's not normal here. Yes I was snowed in for 2 days. I wasn't able to go to work or leave my house until today and there's still snow and black ice out there.

...but, no... it's not the Apocalypse.

That global warming sure is something.

Global Warming isn't the best name in the world for it. If you (royal usage) know anything at all about it, you'd know a better name would Global Climate Change. Of course those who would deny it usually don't know anything about it.

That's what we got. Started at 4am and snowed until 4pm. Driving was fun today, pretty sure I was driving sideways most of the day.

The climate has been changing as long as there has been a climate. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't be condescending because I guarantee I know as much about the subject as you do, and most likely a lot more. However, this subject may be more appropriate for another forum. My apologies.

I apologise if you've taken my remarks as condescension. I tried to make clear that they weren't directed at you by the mention of the "royal we."

My sister's driving out here from Vegas Sunday night for Christmas. I love the rain, personally, but I hope it doesn't get too bad before she gets here. It was snowing in Vegas the other day, and here it rained fairly good for damn near 24 hours straight.

Here's what we woke up this morning...

With another storm for tomorrow, it's beginning to look a lot like a white Christmas ;)

That's purty.

I love the idea of waking up to snow outside, I just don't think I could deal with it day in and day out now (I'm too used to warm weather). I'll stick with driving up to the mountains and renting a cabin.
