TV Guide's best shows of 2008

So no Life or Sarah Connor Chronicles?, but gossip girl?

But some of the shows on the list is pretty good,

^Have you ever seen Gossip Girl, Dorian? Just curious. I know I'm going to be in the minority here (probably of one  ), but I really enjoy the show. The writing is sharp and the characters are always interesting. In a season where so many dramas are growing stagnant or just plain going off the rails (like Heroes and Grey's Anatomy), Gossip Girl is actually one that's getting better. Yes, it's about rich teens and drama-rama abounds, but it's also about friendship and family. Of all the shows I watch during the week, it's probably the most enjoyable one.

Lost, Dexter, House, Mad Men and Battlestar are definitely worthy choices as well. Is L&O really that good this year?

I'm ashamed to admit that I watched it twice, Top. I'm just not into the teen dramas anymore. I'm getting to be a cranky old lady. As for Law and Order, I haven't a clue. I'm more into serial killers working for the police, ad agency execs of the 1960s, and brothers who sell their soul into hell so their baby brother can live, who then meet the sexiest male angel ever to grace the screen. Mmmmm....Misha Collins.

Dean meets the sexy angel

Don't need the teenaged boys when Castiel the sexy angel is around.

Pretty cool. I wish I could get into this show

Anyway, generally have no problem with T.V. Guide's list. Some of my favorites are included, 30 Rock, Pushing Daisies, BSG, and most assuredly, Breaking Bad, featuring one of the best acting ensemble casts I've seen in a one hour drama in years.

I woul have loved to have seen the Sarah Connor Chronicles included but I'm not surprised that it is not.

1. How I Met Your Mother - crap
2. 30 Rock - crap
3. Dexter - ignored
4. Saturday Night Live - crap
5. Lost - crap
6. Mad Men - ok
7. The Office - lame
8. Pushing Daisies - pretentious and cancelled crap
9. Battlestar Galactica - heaping, festering crap
10.True Blood - what?
11.Breaking Bad - huh?
12.Gossip Girl - amusing and vapid escapism but lacking
13.Supernatural - not seen
14.Project Runway - crap this year; already forgot who won.
15.Law and Order - not great since Orbach died, lousy this year
16.House - fair to boring, not as good as it used to be.

The Shield, while good, ended blah. It was poetic and nicely wrapped things up but I was hoping it would go out with a bang.

I'm hard pressed to think of a US-running show during 2008 that I'd rewatch. Heroes is hopeless. Burn Notice was not as good as 2007. Knight Rider was only watchable as a trainwreck but even that entertainment factor has evaporated. Life on Mars, My Own Worst Enemy and other shows I sampled (some I can't remember) were

I'd agree. I wouldn't say always interesting but the writing is sharp and Chuck is fun.

I posted the Chicago Tribune's best list in a different thread. Chuck is listed on that one.

You should give it a try, gblews. It's worth a look. It can swing from the ultra, ultra serious to gut splitting insane comedy. Variety is Supernatural's middle name.

Monster Movie

Written by the certifiably insane Ben Edlund, on Supernatural's writing staff. :guffaw:

Uh oh. Here, let me try again.

monster movie

That one works. It leads to the mind of Ben Edlund. :techman: What happens when demonic monsters start emulating other monsters. :guffaw: From the current season. I wish the clip was longer so we could see when Dracula met the pizza delivery guy.

Ah, what the hey...

1. Battlestar Galactica (Choice episode of the year: "Sine Qua Non")
2. Jericho (Choice episode of the year: "Termination for Cause")
3. Supernatural (Choice episode of the year: "Mystery Spot")
4. The Spectacular Spider-Man (Choice episode of the year: "The Invisible Hand")
5. The Colbert Report (Choice moment of the year: Colbert baits Obama to appear on his show with a free issue of The Amazing Spider-Man guest-starring Colbert and signed by Colbert and Marvel EiC Joe Quesada)
6. Lost (Choice episode of the year: "Meet Kevin Johnson")
7. True Blood (Choice episode of the year: "I Don't Wanna Know")
8. Fringe (Choice episode of the year: "The Equation")
9. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Choice episode of the year: "What He Beheld")
10. Eureka (Choice episode of the year: "I Do Over")

Read. Enjoy. Discuss. Debate. Disagree.

Why there's 16 shows on the list instead of a nice round number....your guess is as good as mine.
My guess is that they didn't want to publish the list without House, just to save their mailman's back, if for no other reason ;).

1. How I Met Your Mother
2. 30 Rock
3. Dexter
4. Saturday Night Live
5. Lost
6. Mad Men
7. The Office
8. Pushing Daisies
9. Battlestar Galactica
10.True Blood
11.Breaking Bad
12.Gossip Girl **CRACK ALERT!! CRACK ALERT!!*
13.Supernatural
14.Project Runway
15.Law and Order
16.House
Most of these shows I don't watch, have never watched, or have never even heard of (Breaking Bad?).

I agree about Gossip Girl and Project Runway, though - why are these on the list? And why isn't The Big Bang Theory #1 - I think it's head and shoulders above How I Met Your Mother (even though I do like HIMYM). Of this list, I don't watch #s 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Boston Legal was top of my 2008 list though since its off the air now, House will regain top spot in my list come 2009.

It's not super high profile, being on cable (AMC), but it's definitely worth checking out if you like your comedy the darkest hue of black. :bolian:

Until I noticed this thread I didn't even know TV guide still existed. From the list provided it would seem toilet paper is more useful than TV guide.
