After hearing the sad news today on the passing of Majel Barrett Roddenberry I thought it would be nice to reminisce about her time on TNG. Which episode was your favorite with Lwaxana Troi? Or your favorite with the computer?

For me it has to be Ménage à Troi. I just loved the way Lwaxana and Picard acted like lovers to fool the Ferangi it was hilarious and a fun episode!

And of course I always considered her part as the computer in "Remember Me" as almost a co-star role for that episode. The way the computer and Dr. Crusher where having debates about the nature of the universe was just classic stuff!

What TNG moments with Majel are your favorites?

Dark Page

I used to be terrified about this episode, especially the scene when she literally gets bigger with the "Get the hell out of here" line. However, watching it again it was a great piece that was a bit tragic.

I also liked Manhunt, Ménage à Troi, and Half a Life

I think "Half a Life" was her best work. Lwaxana tended to be over the top, but she is quite manageable in this episode, with a great story and a great guest star in Ogden Stiers.

I love Half a Life and Dark Page.

Have to admit I also have a fondness for Cost of Living . Objectively, I know it is a thoroughly ridiculous episode, but coming between The First Duty and The Perfect Mate (it does, right?) I always find it refreshingly devoid of rod-up-arse syndrome.

I'm going with "Dark Page", cause it was the only episode where I could stand the Lwaxana character.

Definitely 'Half a Life'. It showed her range as an actress.

Half a Life.

I agree, was Dark Page the ep where Deanna found out she'd had an older sister?

I kinda liked the episode where deanna is supposed to marry "T-Bag".

Agreed. Half a Life is her best TNG episode. Lwaxana is tolerable in this episode and she has a great, meaningful, story.

I'm not good at remembering titles, but one of my favorite Majel Roddenberry spots was an episode on Deep Space 9, where Lwaxana and Odo get stuck in a turbo lift. Odo has to return to his "genatulus state" after a certain amount of hours and as the time ticks by in the turbo lift, he begins to loose his form. He is very embarrassed and turns away from Lwaxana and when she asks him what's the matter, he explains this too her. She tells him not to worry and she holds him in liquid form in the lap of her gown when he can no longer hold his form. This was so touching and a good representation of the relationship between Odo and Lwaxana as they became close friends. She was always flamboyant and bigger than life, but I just loved her character. Majel was a classy lady, I never heard anything but what a kind and compassionate woman she was. She will be missed, I look forward to hearing hear "computer voice" in the new movie. R.I.P. Majel, no end just a New Frontier! Give our love to Gene, as I am sure you will be very happy to be reunited with him again.

Half a Life. I really like her performance in that. I like the quietness she brings to her character.

"Half a Life" and "Dark Page". I also agree with the OP that "Remember Me" was quite the showcase for her portrayal of the ship's computer.

I never shared the disdain for Lwaxana. The character was in some ridiculous episodes but they always had some comedy value and Ms. Barrett-Roddenberry - a far better actress than she was given credit for - was able to make the poorer material she was given seem much better than it was.

I liked all the Lwaxana episodes except for Dark Page. That one was just too damn sad. Otherwise, she was frickin HILARIOUS!

I loved all Majel's episodes on TNG and DS9, but my favorites would probably be Menage a Troi, Manhunt, and Haven. I loved the annoyingly funny Lwaxana. Dark Page and Half a Life were very good also.

The serious eps were good, but I loved her comedy episodes. If there was a day I just needed to laugh, I watched a Lwaxana episode. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, you will be missed.

I enjoyed them all and never had a problem with Lwaxana at all, but 'Dark Page' was incredible.

At times, it seemed they just wrote Lwaxana as the kooky eccentric aunt whose visits you dread, and that was limiting, although I did laugh out loud at certain things she did, like calling Worf Mr. Woof! So that's why I like her in Half A Life. A good story with food for thought, and she acted serious for a change, and it was quite touching when she agrees to accede to Timicin's cultural wishes. Excellent ep! -- RR
