Turning Vegetarian

Yup. Numbers are meaningless that way - I also don't think much of organized religion. Just because a lot of people do something doesn't mean they are right. Even if the majority of people did something it doesn't mean they are right either.

It never occurred to me to think of this issue being about right and wrong. Most vegetarians I know certainly don't present it as such. It's simply their diet preference and a way of life for them.

okay, okay, maybe I was too harsh on the kid. it's my hot Bengali temper running away with me!

I do think Captain X is young and doesn't always look at things from other points of view. I'll let him be. for now ;)

then you really are an idiot and need to live a bit before you see sense. :)
That would be Flaming. Everybody has a right to their opinion, whether you agree with it or not. Please let's keep the discussion civil.

oh, so do I get a warning? oh please, please! I haven't gotten one of those in aaaaaaaaages ;)

PS. advice noted.

Uh.... Nope, already have plenty of experience and sense, much moreso than some upper-middle class kid who thinks that animals are like people and that they're actually helping them by not eating meat. :techman:

Unfortunately I've met far too many vegetarians who have tried to tell me I'm some kind of monster for eating some poor innocent little animal that never did a thing to me or anyone else. I've only met a couple who haven't, and coincidentally they are both friends of mine.

Give the rest of them a chance, CX. :)

why, I'd never call you a monster!! :p

I agree with Kes, some people don't hold those kinds of views. in India, a large number of people don't eat any meat (not just beef), and it's mainly because it was primarily an agrarian society to begin with. as for the so-called sacred cows, well, that's easy. India is the land of rivers and farmlands and cows were providers -- of milk and labor -- hence, they became a protected species and "sacred". most Hindus do not eat pork, either, because they agree with the muslims in that it's considered unclean.

eating meat (or not eating it) is just like any other choice, Captain X. you make it according to your needs and desires. if you have had problems with people villifying you for eating it, just tell them it's no damned business of theirs. just don't paint every vegetarian with that broad brush of blame.

Cows have been the providers of milk and labor in the US too, but they're also seen as a provider of meat. Some places the people don't eat corn either, but we do that here too. As for it being a choice, that's part of why I rip on vegetarians, because it's a choice they had to make in life. How bad I rip on them depends on the reasons for making that choice, with the "moral" vegetarians getting the worst of it.

so why do you have a problem with vegetarians? ;)

Because they're silly, and a large percentage of the ones I've had personal experience with are hypocrites. It almost makes me want to eat more meat just thinking about them, because I know it would piss them off.

Since you're admitting to trolling, I just want to encourage you to continue down this vein. Please eat red meat (the fattier the better) for every meal, plus snacks, every day, for the rest of your life. Please don't eat any vegetables at all; just fatty red meat, as often as humanly possible.

Oh, and please start smoking, too, if you haven't already.

okay, then. how many vegetarians have you met?

I only eat lean meat, but I'll be sure to think of how I'll probably still live longer than you when I do. ;)

I don't know what you're basing that on, since I'm not a vegetarian.

From your apparent need for pointless confrontation over minor shit that isn't your business, I wouldn't bet too much on that "living longer" bit.

Sorry, I guess I assumed you were based on the tone of what you said, my bad.

Okay, enough. This is a Thread for advice about becoming a Vegetarian; it's not the Captain X Show. Any more in this vein will be considered Trolling and Warned accordingly.

That goes for everybody else, too; back on Topic, please.

You need to start ratcheting it back. Big time.
