Ummm... yeah... we knew this for over a year. When the new people got the rights to the franchise the plan was for 4-5-6 to deal with the future war. I mean they really have to release "we plan on filming it 6 months sooner!"

Yep. No big surprise. They've just decided to jumpstart development besides waiting until Terminator Salvation is a hit or not.

For their sake, they better hope it is a hit...

They should call the 6th film "Terminator Armageddon" me thinks.

No ideas for 5 though.

On the plus side, deciding now to start development on 5 will, I think and hope, be a chip in T:SCC's fortunes at FOX, who I'm of firm belief only gave the show a full season order to see how cross-traffic interest with the new film played out. If T4 does well box office wise, I think we'll see a half-season pick-up again for T:SCC at the later-in-May up-fronts. If it crashes and burns, I think so too will T:SCC. We'll see.

Yeah I thought it was common knowledge among the fandom that there were plans for a trilogy...Salvation being the opening salvo in the Future War. Personally I hope that it does well enough in the box office to warrant their planned continuation.

It will be a hit. It's got Bale, an iconic character, and a new fanbase thanks mainly to The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Also, huge battles with robots are also a huge draws as well.
