The bed of my truck, that is. They apparently equate the cargo area of a pickup truck with a garbage can. Over the last few weeks I keep finding random pieces of trash in there. Today it was a McDonald's bag and some barbecue sauce containers, a few days before it was a Starbucks cup and bag. 'd get a tonneau cover but I just don't have the money. What the hell is wrong with people that they think that someone's vehicle is an acceptable place to throw their trash?

Did it happen at the same place/area? if so, it might be the same person. I've never seen that kind of thing.

All those items sound pretty lightweight, no? Don't rule out mother nature as the culprit, as I have seen this happen (light trash being blown into truck beds) with my own eyes. A strong gust can carry lightweight garbage for miles.

I've had it heppen to me, and I also heard of an instance where the guy spent the money to get a tonneau cover and whoever it was cut it to throw their trash in there, and when he got a hard cover they smashed it in to do the same.

I feel for you. I live right next to a bus stop and people feel that it is fine to drip whatever crap they want to either in the small depression that goes down to my garage doors, or worse, into my mail slot. I once found a used condom in there.

Where does this happen? Work or home? If at home you should try watching your truck to see if it's some asshole neighbor or asshole kid doing it on purpose, if at work there could be cameras to catch the culprit.


The gust of wind theory presented earlier also can go the other way: if you don;t notice the trash in the back and drive away and it blows out while a police man is behind you, you could find yourself with a littering fine.

Check the bags for receipts. Sometimes whe you pay for food with a credit card, it puts your name on the receipt. Police were using receipts to fine litters I heard in the news once. And if it's a frequent resturant, you could always see if hte manager is friendly and will pull up hte tapes for the time on the receipt so you can see if it's anybopdy you know or lives in the area.

Where my mother used to work they were doing construction on a new mall; usually working well into the night-- and some 24hr a day as the deadline got closer. She started out ot her truck after closing one night-- about 10pm, give or take-- and she noticed 4 men sitting on the truck, 2 on the tailgate, 2 on the hood. She called the city police, and when they got there, the guys said they worked on the mall construction team, and that they were on their lunch breaks and didn't see what the problem was. The cop wrote them a ticket, bitched out their foreman, and came back and told my mom and told her that it was getting to be a common problem in the parking lot; that the construction crew(s) were sitting on cars, trucks, hanging etc, etc.

I think people are like, "Oooh, receptacle! It's got sides, an open top, and a bottom. Trash goes IN!"

You can make the argument that at least they weren't littering by throwing it on the ground. It's a step up, folks, but we're going to need to have you try a weeee bit harder!

Same s**t happening here -xcept with bicycle baskets (usually the bigger ones are commonly referred to as 'model public trash can' ). Apparently people don't feel like they're littering when they throw their trash anywhere that's not the ground

I get my truck bed dirty by hauling things like our Christmas tree, and it's been scratched up several times while helping my sister move furniture to her new house. It's not the fact that it's getting dirty, its the fact that people are seeing my truck as a trash receptical.

As for where it happens, I'm not really sure because I have noticed it both at work and at home but have no idea when and where the stuff got there.

How does that even compare? A truck bed is an unsheltered exterior platform used to haul stuff. Stuff that can be dirty. That's why they're made of steel or heavy duty plastic. Trucks are work vehicles.

Yeah the dude shouldn't have tossed his garbage in it, but it's nothing to think twice about, let alone get in a tizzy about.

And I agree, there is no excuse for using someone's bed as a trash bin

But, I will admit that when I read the title to the thread, I thought it was a roommate problem
